    I just don’t get where I am going wrong

    I am having terrible difficulty styling the nav colour in the generic
    child theme even using firebug – I want the nav menu white by default but
    yellow on active or hover – can anyone help?

    /* 03a – Font Color ———– */

    .genesis-nav-menu a:
    color: #ffffff;
    }

    a:hover,
    body,
    h2 a,
    h2 a:visited,
    h4.widgettitle a,
    input,
    .author,
    .date,
    .post-comments,
    #title a,
    #title a:hover {
    color: #1e1e1e;
    }
    .genesis-nav-menu li a:hover,
    .genesis-nav-menu li:hover a,
    .genesis-nav-menu li li a:hover,
    .genesis-nav-menu .current-menu-item a {
    color: #ffec0a;
    }

    #footer a {
    color: #333333;
    }

    What generic child theme are you referring to? The sample child theme?

    Yes, but I have a bit of a lack of understanding how the css naming hierarchy works and also the difference between . and #

    I genuinely don’t get why

    genesis-nav-menu a:
    color: #ffffff;
    }

    isn’t working…

    Are you trying to change the “background color”? If so you are targeting the link. The link is identified with an (a:). So what you have there is the link color on the Nav which is white. The nav you are looking for would be identified with: background: #whatevercolor. It’s hard to assist you when you are local. If you can point to the Sample Child theme demo you are referring to, that would help.

    No, I am trying to change the link – I have enough understanding to be incredibly frustrated, though. Its the genesis-sample-theme which I am modifying – http://my.studiopress.com/setup/genesis-sample-theme-setup/

    I want the nav menu text white by default but yellow on active or hover, and the rest of the text on the page black.

    When I click on the demo from that page, I get this – http://demo.studiopress.com/genesis/. So your theme looks like this?

    Just to clarify, I’ve changed the code as above and it all good apart from the default links are blue, not black..
