I’ve created a Google+ page and want to link it to my website, not simply set up authorship. I have the following instructions from Google: Ask your site’s webmaster to add the following line of code to your site’s homepage: (and it gives me a code).

I don’t know where to add this code. It’s supposed to go in the Header area (header.php) but I’m unsure where or which file to place it in.

I would be really grateful if somebody could help me with this.

    Thanks for reaching out Susan.

When I enter the code into the header scripts section, I get a Google + link show up in the header area, and the code still fails the test.

This is the line of code –
    Google+

    This is the instruction –
    Link your website
By adding a short line of code to http://www.mydomain.co.uk, you can make your Google+ page eligible to show up on the right-hand side of the Google search page for relevant queries and make your Google+ page more discoverable.

Ask your site’s webmaster to add the following line of code to your site’s homepage

    Wibbly:

Sorry for the misinformation – I gave you the directions to connect your Google+ page to your site, not to claim authorship.

    Follow this tutorial: http://www.bourncreative.com/adding-google-authorship-to-your-wordpress-site/

Thanks Susan…. it seems I now have ownership, although when I test the piece of code Google still tells me it’s not claimed!

I just really don’t get Google + at all. I find it so confusing… then again, it’s just been one of those weeks this week, everything I’ve done appears to have been just so confusing! :D

    Thanks again.

It takes a good 24 hours for Google to catch up. They won’t see it right away.

Also there is a doc for this here:

    Hi Susan

Referring your suggestion to connect Google + to your website, Go to Genesis > Theme Settings > Header Scripts > add it in there. I’ve added the code as directed by Google+ Google+ in the area where your recommendation is in the Genesis Theme Settings and then clicked “Test Website”. This warning appears “Check that the line of code was added to your site’s homepage and that the modified homepage is live on your site. Then try testing again.” So I am not sure whether I’ve done correctly. I didn’t get the confirmation message.

This link website is in the About page under Links section.

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for this info – it seems pretty straight forward – however when I go into the file depicted above the second line of text under <?php and Genesis Framework says this:

    * WARNING: This file is part of the core Genesis Framework. DO NOT edit this file under any circumstances.
    * Please do all modifications in the form of a child theme.

    Scary!

The only reason I searched and found this thread was because I wanted to put this code in my child theme but there does not appear to be a header.php file to add it too…

    Any ideas? Susan? Anyone?

    Please help!

    GC

There is nothing in the set-up instructions provided that have you a) modify the Genesis framework, or b) add it to a header.php file.

You’re making all the changes via the dashboard to your user profile.

Ok… so Google is telling us to do it incorrectly then?

    https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1713826?p=link_page_to_website&rd=1

As per Google in the link above

To link your Google+ Page to your website:

Make sure you’re using Google+ as your page.
    Click Profile on the left.
On the ‘About’ tab, click the Link website button next to your website URL.
Follow the steps in the box that appears:
Copy and paste the code snippet provided to the <head> tag of your website and click the Test website button.
We’ll check to make sure you’ve added the snippet to your website correctly.
Click Done when the check is complete.
A verified checkmark checkmark will display next to your website on the ‘About’ tab of your page’s profile. It may take a few days for the checkmark to appear.

Or am I just not understanding the instructions correctly. I’ve done a few Google searches and allot of people say to put the code in the header.php …

    Ok. So I’ve done it.

    This is what I did.

    (I’m using Genesis-Sample)

    1) Go to Genesis tab and hover
    2) Hover displays ‘Theme Settings’ and ‘Import/Export’ – select theme settings
    3) Scroll to the bottom of ‘Theme Settings’ to a sub-heading that says: ‘Header and Footer Scripts’
    4) In the ‘wp_head()’ section put the code Google gave you in there.

Then go back to your Google+ page and select ‘verify website’

    Voilà!

Ok disregard all of that. (My last post that is [the one above this post] – in fact if a moderator could delete that so that no poor unsuspecting sole goes and does that to there site… IT DOES NOT WORK.

It said it was working from Googles end… but it broke my site in actuality and I had to reverse it i.e. I have now removed the code.

    Still stuck :/
