Hello there!
I have an urgent problem: I don´t really know what design I should pick, because I need something special for the "Home" / "Frontside".
I want to integrate a youtube video, which users who enter my blogg just watch immediatly.
The design should be clear and kind of structured.
I´m a total newbie on this blogginthing so please be gentle, I didn´t find any other thread with this problem and don´t really know if i can integrate a youtube video in every single design
Thank you guys!

It sounds like you just need to pick a design you like, and then set the static front page of your website to be a page with an embedded YouTube video. Does that sound correct?
Need beautiful and responsive Genesis child themes at amazing prices? Stop by LlamaPress and check out our themes.
November 15, 2014 at 12:55 pm #131624anotherusernameParticipantHi there, Decane:
I think there are going to be several themes that will allow you to put a video in your home page. I don't think that is going to be a problem.
I think what you need to do first is to figure out what exactly you want when you say you want a "clear and kind of structured" design.
For instance, how many sections do you want to break your site into? That might help you decide if you want one menu, or two menus, or maybe more?
Will your site just have a handful of informational pages? Or will it have a blog, too? will you have lots of different categories for your blog?
Do you want to have sidebars for your site? Some people like them for navigation, but if you are using them on a mobile responsive site, then the sidebars are pushed all the way down to the bottom of the page.
I encourage you to think about what the overall structure of your site is going to be first, and then try to find a theme that is going to fit your site's structure.
(I've done the opposite in the past: I picked out a theme I thought was cool and then tried to get it to match how I wanted my site structured. It was harder to do it that way then it should have been.)

also, somewhat off topic, I hope you don't want the video to play automatically when someone enters your site. I am sure you COULD do that, but as a user, I find that kind of annoying.
Hope this helps.

November 15, 2014 at 1:29 pm #131630anotherusernameParticipantHi there, Decane:
Remember that there are two different front page designs: one that is a static page (usually has lots of widgets) and one that is like a blog page. And when you are looking at different theme demos, some of the demos will show a static front page, and others will show posts (like an archive page).
So you might see one theme and think that it doesn't have all the features you want. But in reality, it is just that the demo is set up to show posts instead of a static page with widgets.
I hope this helps.
November 15, 2014 at 1:40 pm #131631notaprogrammerguyMemberHello,
I have a serious dilemma, I am a "newbie" and I am not sure if I am even posting this question in the correct section but the answer to the previous question confirmed a question (that I wasn't going to ask) so I will consider that as some what of a confirmation.
My question is based on some information I stumbled upon yesterday. I have been researching WordPress, SEO, blogging, etc. (and have found all of the above to be quite interesting)... I am all ready to start "trying to build" my first WordPress website/blog and I read that I should get a premium theme since I am using my website for business. What?!?
Excuse me - what I mean is... what would be the benefit of purchasing a theme if there are thousands of free themes all over the place?
And to be quite honest - it's a little disappointing to have invested so much time and energy into pulling together content, producing videos, setting up systems and when I finally get to the final draft and I'm ready to implement my "master plan" -now I have to consider themes, security issues, hosting and plug-in choices... when I had made final decisions on basically all of the above.
I just wanted to have a nice, clean, easy to read website that let users watch videos, read information about our various programs, like us or connect with us, chat with us, check out our blog, share our great information and have a nice day...
Is that really too much to ask? I know that a lot of you guys are probably veteran "WordPressers" and I am thankful that someone will share some information that I am sure will enlighten the "Non-Programmer Guy".... because it is obvious that some good quality feedback may not be a bad idea....
Thanks,
Good Feedback Appreciated

Well, technically you don't NEED a pro (as in, NOT free) theme. you could do that with a free theme if you wanted to.
It's just that a paid framework (such as genesis) and many of the paid themes will allow you to do more stuff, more easily, and will cut down on development time and costs. They might be more secure, and they might load faster. In short, they might delight your visitors more than free themes.
Also, the support for paid themes is USUALLY pretty good, while the support for free themes is often non-existent. Sometimes it's good, sometime's not.
So you just have to prioritize your needs.

Ummm... How can I put this diplomatically???
You know about affiliate marketing, right?
You know how some people - there might be one or two out there in the internets - might just happen to write an article saying, "You really need to have a Super Mega Theme from Acme Theme Company." And those one or two people just might happen to have a link to the Super Mega Theme from Acme Theme Company from that article because every time that someone clicks that link and buys a theme, the person who wrote the article gets a small commission.
Does that mean that genesis is bad because it uses affiliate marketing?
No, not really. Genesis is pretty darn good.
But as good as it is, I wouldn't have discovered it myself unless I had accidentally run across one of those same articles that had affiliate links in it. Affiliate marketing if a very cost-effective way to advertise / market your product.

I really appreciate your feedback. It's straight forward and sincere - both of which are needed. After "sending my S.O.S" earlier I did just what you suggested. I thought about my priorities and weighted the pros and cons of the situation. I also did a little more research and I decided to "go Pro". And I have to admit... I am pleased with the investment.
The theme is exactly what I had been looking for an although I am really new to this - I can see the value in the investment. I know that the time I am going to spend inputting and configuring content is going to be greatly reduced... the site is going to look great and it's going to = bigger lists and more clients. There's no doubt about it.
The part I don't look forward to is the initial learning curve but after I get through the preliminaries I am eager to see the end results myself!
I will make sure I let you know how it goes.
You know about affiliate marketing, right?
I thought about that angle... Lol!
But when I thought about the bottom line - the ends justify the means. I purchased one of the premium StudioPress themes and it's nice. I am extremely pleased and I am just beginning to construct site.
Affiliate marketing is an ingenious way to market products and in this case it was a win-win. The best way to do business....
Thanks Again Mr. AnotherUserName (2 thumbs up)
