I was wondering why the video tutorials are not included in the instructions any longer. For example the Agentpress theme. I see several people have had issues and if the video had been available to them, the issue they had would have been addressed in there. Did you all delete/remove them? They were very helpful.

January 18, 2013 at 7:46 am #12839Hi Anita,
You can still find video tutorials sprinkled in here: http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/.
There are additional video tuts available on http://studiopress.tv/.
Not sure about an AgentPress-specific video tutorial, but here’s a pretty nice written post on set up: http://my.studiopress.com/setup/agentpress-theme/
Cheers,
Carrie

January 18, 2013 at 7:47 am #12840Thanks Carrie. I am familiar with all of those, but each individual theme had an instructional video that was narrated by Andrea and it resided at the top of the written instructions. There were additional screen shots when she provided the step-by-step instruction that was very, very useful.

We did not have videos for the setup of Agentpress 2.0. We did decide to drop them as they were easily 4 to6 times as long to produce over a written tutorial (like, ALL DAY to do one) and then when the WP UI changes (which is does 1 to 3 times a year) the videos would have to be done all over again.
The only video tutorials left on the old forums was for older themes. That was it.

TwitterholicJanuary 18, 2013 at 8:09 am #12845Oh, sorry Andrea! I loved those videos and she had a very calming voice. Very informative. I just wish they would have still been available even if there was a message that said they could have been outdated or something.

Why Not Take The Challenge! – Help us answer some of the unanswered postsJanuary 18, 2013 at 8:13 am #12846Whenever we switched to 2.0 version of themes, I would leave them up at the bottom of the page for anyone who had the 1.0 version. We found that people would skip over all the text and go straight to the video then wonder why their screen was different.

TwitterholicJanuary 18, 2013 at 3:16 pm #12935If there’s even an old video tutorial that exists anywhere, I’d love to see it – and I promise not to wonder my screen is different
I feel like the written how-to is missing important information and/or written in a hurry.
January 18, 2013 at 3:29 pm #12940For the same theme? It does need a rewrite to be more specific. We do not usually include WordPress defaults.

TwitterholicJanuary 18, 2013 at 3:39 pm #12947Oh and if you did mean for Agentpress the old videos for 1.0 have completely different setup, different widget areas, a different slider, different plugins and a whole different way of doing the listings. So.
The 2.0 version of a theme is a completely new theme. Consider it a different theme that happens to have the same name.

TwitterholicJanuary 18, 2013 at 4:04 pm #12961Yes, the AgentPress theme. Got it.
I’m pretty new to all this, so unfortunately, sometimes I’m not clear on what’s a WP default versus part of the theme.
I’m still working my way through it, but specifically, here are some things I noticed:
I was able to follow the instructions pretty easily through maps and videos, after that it got trickier
As I mentioned in another post, I had trouble getting the thumbnails to work for the category listings (am I supposed to assign a Featured Image?)
I also found it challenging to get the Additional Photos to work (because there was no size setting)
In the tutorial, it mentions something about the property map shortcode – typo?
A few notes about how to configure the gallery plugin would be nice too – I happened across it and found I had choices — but I can’t find it anymore!
Maybe this is a default WP thing, but it’d be nice to point out anywayI don’t see anything on how to set up the home page to look like the demo. I started by making it a full-width (it looks like that in the demo, no?), but I had trouble with padding issues (I have another post in the forum about that). Seems I have to adjust the CSS, so I skipped the home page and moved on for now.
“Add Slider to the Widget Area” is mentioned. What is this – where on the demo is it shown?
That’s all the farther I’ve gotten in the tutorial. Still tweaking and learning…
p.s. Why can’t I get the bullets to work in this editor?
Thanks!
January 18, 2013 at 4:27 pm #12974Hi Jodzee,
Here’s a tutorial on setting up the AgentPress home page you might find helpful: http://www.carriedils.com/homepage-agentpress-theme/2076
Here is another post explaining the differencebetween AgentPress and the third-party IDX plugin used in the theme demo: http://www.carriedils.com/agentpress-dsidxpress-dssearchagent/797
As for thumbnails for category listings, you are correct: you need to assign featured images to those posts.
Take a look at those tutorials and see if that helps clarify things for you. If not, I’d kindly request opening a new thread with one or two specific questions at a time – It’s overwhelming to cover all the bases in a single response.
Cheers,
Carrie

January 18, 2013 at 5:29 pm #12987Thanks a bunch, Carrie! I’ll take some time to check that out. At first glance it looks very helpful
I do have a couple other threads open, the intention of my brain dump here was to give feedback on how the current tutorial could be updated to be more helpful to noobs like me.
Happy weekend!

Dragging the widgets to the areas specified is exactly how to set up the home page.
No, you do not make a page full width. You do not even make a separate page.
