    Hey guys! After weeks of toiling with CSS, I finally got my site looking good enough to make it go live. Check it out and let me know what you think:

    And if anyone has specific CSS instructions for how to make the divider text background not look funky and white, please let me know. (You can see this when you click on an individual blog post in the “comments” section.) I think it has something to do with the fact that I’ve made the background image transparent with the main body area, but just ’cause I know that’s the likely cause doesn’t mean I know how to fix it.

    That’s really adorable. I love it, great job! I am not that great at this, but try this. Look for this in your style sheet – I dded the background line in there. See how that looks.

    .ping-list, #comments {
        background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #F96E5B;
        margin-bottom: 3rem;

    Looks great!

    Nice customisation, love your colours & content. You should be pretty happy! The header is lovely too.

    I can’t help with your css issue, sorry. But a few things I thought:

    My designer eye is thinking the drop shadow on the sidebar items doesn’t really match the rest of the site – I think you’d have more consistency without out (the classic case of less is more).

    Also, the background image is significantly delayed in loading, is there anyway to optimise it further?

    Great job Cassie!

    Thanks, all, for the feedback! Cath, I haven’t had any problem loading the background image on my computer. But maybe it depends on the system. I’ll check into whether I can use a smaller file without compromising the image quality. Thanks for the head’s up! As for the drop shadow, I guess it’s just a matter of personal preference. I might be sick of it in six months, but for now, I’ll keep ‘em! Thanks!

    Something just came to my attention that I’m not super pleased with – I noticed bold styling is not working for me in Firefox (I got confirmation from another user on a different computer getting the same thing). Everything looks as it should in Chrome, but Firefox doesn’t seem to want to recognize <strong> or <b> tags in my posts. Anyone know of a fix for this? And why the heck wouldn’t that be a standard piece of CSS to go in this theme? Help! Please and thanks.

    Ah, figured it out with the help of support. Easy fix that others likely wouldn’t come across unless they’d been messing with the code as I had.

    NOPE. Now it’s not working on Chrome again. (Firefox is good.) Help!!

    I’m using Chrome and I see bold (<strong>) in your posts. Can you link me a specific example?

    Just paid for Metro and Genesis, just ditched Headway; I really like the design of your site , but the background, is not me… I am a man, if it matters.

    Great job!  I love your use of the big background photo! :)

    Thanks again! Roger, I’m flattered, but you’ll be better off using a “real” designer. This was a lot of trial and error and I’m still very much a newbie. If I charge you hourly, it’d cost tens of thousands of dollars. ;)

    Also, now that I’ve lived with this new design for awhile (and have had a chance to recover), can anyone recommend how I might be able to make the customized header responsive? When I minimize the size of my browser, all the blog post content responds properly, but the header begins to disappear and get cut off. Same goes for the mobile version – in fact, you can’t see the title of the site at all when viewing on an iPhone.

    Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, guys.

    Wow, looks great!

    Did you try the more tag? I think there is to much scrolling and the time the page loads everything (especially the sidebar widget) is really slow. The background image might should be look more clear.

    When I tested your page on the iPad everything looks fine and responsive. Also on my browser.

    Thanks for the feedback! I’ve yet to have problems with the page loading time, but you’re not the first person to tell me they have. I’m not a fan of the “more” button, because as a blog reader myself, I know I feel less inclined to read on when I have to click “more,” vs. when all the text is right there. I wonder what other ways I could possibly speed this up?

    Since my last post, I installed the Genesis Responsive Header plugin, and that fixed the size of the header on my iPhone! I’m seeing a weird space between that and the links below it, though. Will continue to snoop around for clues.
