The excerpt overlaps the images. Your images are at the correct size.

Check the theme css – it may have forced a width on the excerpt. We did the same in Executive.

If not, should I just use posts and redirect to the page I want? That seems a bit clunky, but maybe that’s the only way to do it?

That’s what I would do.

Similarly, in the Home Middle widget area, I used three Featured Page widgets. Again, I want custom content here that links to it’s page. Does the Featured Page widget only support automatic excerpts?

 

Yes. If you really want to fine tune it, use a text widget with HTML.

Resolved in help desk.

You have a specific page set as the home page.

This will override the theme’s home.php template.

Go to Settings -> Reading and pick “your latest posts” so the template can work as intended.

It’s actually less efficient because there are more calls to separate files.

And yes, you can do it with php includes. That’s not WordPress specific, it’s just php.

No, there is not.

The home page is widgetized, and setting a static home page will override it.

There are a few Maintenace Mode plugins out there you can use to show visitors that you are working on the site, then you can set it up quickly.
