URLS are created by WordPress itself. Please check your permalink settings and your plugins.
You need to replace the one in the child theme folder. You can verify it;s done right by viewing the HTML source of the page.
The child themes do not get upgrade notices .You are not expected to update them if we push put a new version.

Also – Nick does not monitor this forum. I just happened to catch this while cleaning out spam.
THe plugins are hosted at WordPress.org and this have a support forums attached for each, as required by WordPress.org. (not a fan of that bit, but there you are.. I’d rather support them all in one place.)
You’d be better off posting in the WordPress.org forums, as gravatars are used by default in WordPress and not theme specific.
You need to hire a developer to build you a custom widget.

Nick is the author of GFWA and he’s asked people to submit patches on github to help out, even with testing. So far, no one has, despite interest.

The home page is simply widget areas.
Any lightbox plugin that gives you a widget to work with would do it.
Check for caching.
There’s nothing in the theme code or multisite to prevent any css changes from being shown by default.
