There are several plugin's you can use, but as I review your blog Rob (as I have for a few days), I see you like to do graphics. Using a combination of these two plugins probably would work really well for you. This one will customize your login screen and your dashboard. I have been using this to customize my clients website experience - it adds their logo, etc., everywhere and removes the WP logo - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/erident-custom-login-and-dashboard/. You can customize the logo area, and backgrounds - where you can add a message to come back later. Then you want to use the Private Only plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-only/) which will activate the other screen when you are in maintenance mode. So when you want to go offline - activate Private Only only - and you can see the full website - everyone else get's routed to the new screen you created.

AnitaKeymasterSee, what I wrote to WordPress was that if we as the blog owners are editing the site - we should see everything in real time. I use the schedule feature a lot, however it doesn't allow me to see what it will look like on the site until it actually publishes to everyone. The same thing with posting in real time. I sent them some really detail information on this and hopefully I should hear something soon. It doesn't make sense for use to not see everything when we are logged in.
The only work around I have found, was to put the site in Maintenance Mode, view it and then turn Maintenance Mode off.

AnitaKeymasterThat's a big problem right now with WordPress. I actually sent the WordPress developers an email about this. RobG are you using JetPack? How are your subscribers receiving your posts right now.

AnitaKeymasterI think this will work for you. Look for the code below and insert this - margin: 0 0 30px;
.featuredpage .page, .featuredpost .post {
margin: 0 0 30px;
overflow: hidden;
padding: 0;
}So it would look like this;
.featuredpage .page, .featuredpost .post {
margin: 0 0 30px;
overflow: hidden;
padding: 0;
}

AnitaKeymasterDo you mean you only one one photo on the front? Not a slider but a photo that possibly leads to a page on your website? Try WP-Cycle - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-cycle/. You can add one image there with or without a link to a destination. You can add in more if you want.

AnitaKeymasterI never do anything. I stay home and watch all the festivities on TV with my dog and eat snacks. I order Chinese food and just cuddle in the blanket! My friend is going to a party and he's going to use Bambuser on his phone to stream the party live over the internet. So I will tune in to watch some of the party too. Resolutions... to lose this weight! Put me and the dog on a serious diet. But also to move... get out of here, go south and begin a new journey.

AnitaKeymasterThat looks great! I am trying my hand at Buddypress with Genesis right now. I hope to launch the site soon and place it over hear for review. The bbP looks great on the front also. The site is clean and easy to read also.

December 30, 2012 at 5:57 am in reply to: How to align social icons horizontally and remove border? #8330AnitaKeymasterHere are instructions you can use to create a custom menu to place your icons. This might work better for you.
Insert this into your CSS. Note - these are examples - replace the URLs to the location of your own social media icons. You should also adjust the margins, paddings, etc., to work exactly how you need them in your theme, but this will give you a start.
/* Social Media Icons
------------------------------------------------------------ */.widget-area .social {
float: left;
margin: 0 0 10px;
width: 88px;
}.widget-area .subscribe {
background: url(images/subscribe.png) no-repeat left center;
padding: 4px 5px 4px 37px;
}.widget-area .twitter {
background: url(images/twitter.png) no-repeat left center;
padding: 4px 5px 4px 37px;
}.widget-area .facebook {
background: url(images/facebook.png) no-repeat left center;
padding: 4px 5px 4px 37px;
}.widget-area .contact {
background: url(images/contact.png) no-repeat left center;
padding: 4px 5px 4px 37px;
}
}Go to Dashboard -> Menus, look at the top right corner for Screen Options. Check the box "CSS Classes".
Click the (+) sign to create a new tab/menu - label it Social Media and Save.
Now let's begin to add each social icon.
We'll start with Facebook. On the left - Click the Custom Menu. Add the URL to your Facebook account and add Facebook to the Label. Save, then drag over to the new custom menu.
Open up that entry and look for CSS Classes. In that box type the two words - social facebook - then save.
Now repeat these steps for each one of your accounts, replacing the url, label and css (i.e., social twitter, social subscribe, social contact, etc.).
Once you have completed them - Go to Appearance-> Widgets, drag over the Custom Menu -> select the Social Media menu and save.
Credit for this instruction goes to the developer of the Studiopress theme "Pretty Young Thing". I tweaked it a little bit.

December 29, 2012 at 9:57 pm in reply to: How to align social icons horizontally and remove border? #8293AnitaKeymasterDid you add a class to the social icons that leads them back to the CSS? Or did you merely add the src to the images?

AnitaKeymasterYou need to create a menu and add what you want to that menu. Go to >Appearance >Menus. Create a new Menu, drag over the pages, categories, etc., to that new menu and save it.

AnitaKeymasterIf I "view source" I see this link - http://shapleys.makennasworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/cropped-Shapleys-3D-Logo.jpg. When I try to access it - I get a 404 page. Make sure the image is in that folder on the server and also make sure it's typed correctly. I know that even capitalization makes a difference.

AnitaKeymasterDo you want the image to be on the page/post though? I found a nifty code that will automatically place the featured image at the top of your posts - http://webonanza.com/how-to-add-featured-images-to-blog-posts-in-the-genesis-framework-wordpress/. Works like a charm!

AnitaKeymasterDid you place the same image in the body of the post?

AnitaKeymasterGo to your Settings > Permalinks and Save. See if they return. If not, go back and change the permalinks to something else - save and check them again.
