Kay, 3 days later I figured out what the issue was. Posting the solution here because it drives me nuts when I find posts that describe exactly what I'm trying to do with either no response or no follow-up showing what worked. 🙂
I found this post where you pointed out that certain get_author_info won't work outside the loop. I realized then that the following code in my functions.php file might be what's causing the same issue as this previous poster.
// * Relocate titles on Page, Post and other single pages add_action( 'genesis_after_header','relocate_entry_title_singular' ); function relocate_entry_title_singular() { if ( ! is_singular() ) return; echo '<div class="entry-header-wrapper"><div class="wrap">'; genesis_do_post_title(); genesis_post_info(); echo '</div></div>'; if ( is_page_template( 'page_blog.php' ) ) return; remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_entry_header_markup_open', 5 ); remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_do_post_title' ); remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_entry_header_markup_close', 15 ); if ( ! is_singular('post' ) ) return; remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_post_info', 12 ); }
I changed it to this:
// * Relocate titles on Page, Post and other single pages add_action( 'genesis_after_header','relocate_entry_title_singular' ); function relocate_entry_title_singular() { if ( ! is_singular() ) return; echo '<div class="entry-header-wrapper"><div class="wrap">'; genesis_do_post_title(); echo '</div></div>'; if ( is_page_template( 'page_blog.php' ) ) return; remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_entry_header_markup_open', 5 ); remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_do_post_title' ); remove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_entry_header_markup_close', 15 ); }
removing the
genesis_post_info();
from the first half of the code andremove_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'genesis_post_info', 12 );
from the last bit there. Problem solved.Thanks for the advice on the conflict issue with simple edits and using the custom snippets. That'll definitely be helpful to know for future projects. 🙂
bello-viaMemberI'm having the same issue with a client's site running the Agency Pro theme.
bello-viaMemberThat made perfect sense Brad. I was so hopeful that would fix it but no luck. 🙁
Here's the steps I've tried, testing after each to see if the author name appeared...
I deactivated the Genesis Simple Edits plugin and even deleted the files for it.
I deleted the custom PHP code mentioned above (the removal of the entry meta in the footer).
I added the snippet for "customize the post meta function" code to functions.php (as is, no changes).
I tried adjusting the snippet code with the wording and arrangement that the client would prefer.
Lastly, I replaced the functions.php file with the original functions.php from the parallax theme download.Still no author name showing on the single post pages. I've also checked to make sure I hadn't added a 'display: none' styling that might affect it in the CSS since I'd tried at one point removing the post footer meta on the excerpts using display:none but was unable to isolate the excerpts only using that method. Never-the-less, I figured I better double check and make sure something wasn't still lingering there.
I feel like I have a better game plan for getting the wording the way I'd like it but the author name disappearing is going to be an issue with the client I'm sure. Two steps forward, one step back. Could be worse I suppose. Any other ideas?
bello-viaMemberI'm looking to do the same thing on a current project. Looks like you got it working great on your site. Would you be willing to share what code worked for you?
The site I'm hoping to use it on can be found here: Hopeful World - Our Stories
November 18, 2013 at 10:55 am in reply to: Executive Pro – What size should the featured image have? #73965bello-viaMemberThe timing of your post is perfect. I'm working on a new site installation using executive pro and have been struggling with the featured image as well. Sridhar, if you happen to write up a tutorial on this could you include the optional modification to display the featured image above the title as well? In my situation I'd love for the featured image to appear above the post title on blog pages and also above page titles on individual pages. I can post a new question in the forum if that would be best. I just figured what I'm looking for is so very similar to Mathias' timely request. 🙂
October 2, 2013 at 11:57 am in reply to: How can you change the font-size range in the tag cloud via functions.php? #65090bello-viaMemberVery helpful. Thanks for updating the post with the code you used. Worked perfectly!
bello-viaMemberUnfortunately I ended up using a table like we'd done in the past but just manually sorted the stylists first by state and then by first name. Not an ideal solution long term as they add multiple stylists and the table gets much bigger but it works for now and allowed me to get the site updated for some publicity they've got coming up in the next few weeks. Still would love to find a more automated solution but so far no luck getting a response here or in the wordpress.org forums. Maybe this will bump the thread and someone might take a stab at a better solution for both of us.
Sorry I didn't have better news. 🙁 If you're looking to do something similar on a small-ish scale using a table, like my temporary solution, I'd be happy to help with the code-work for that.
bello-viaMemberGood to know Brad. I think I'll leave things the way they are for now and keep an eye on the options that become available with the HTML 5 changes coming shortly. Thanks again so much for all your help!
bello-viaMemberThank you Brad. I couldn't get the github code to work but I think the check box option that jetpack uses makes it less important that the option is displayed before the 'post comment' button.
The hooks all seem to refer to options outside of the form itself. What I was originally hoping to do was add the new subscription option between 'comment-form-comment' and 'form-submit'. If that's an easy adjustment to the code you'd included above I'd still love to try that. If not, no worries. I appreciate all your help. 🙂
bello-viaMemberNot your fault at all Susan. I think it's just a matter of adjusting to the new format here. It's my own fault for losing my email receipt. I'll see if I can get the transaction ID through customer service. Anita helped me out in another thread on my current question but I think I'll want login access to your support area in case I need help on a future install. I love the theme and hope to use it more often. 🙂
Anita, I see the current version listed in the download link and the date (I believe) is the date the latest version was released. I don't see a purchased date anywhere. And oddly enough I now see 'my purchases' listed under the my studiopress dropdown but that's where I was sure I'd seen it earlier last night and it was gone when I'd originally posted this question. Possible glitch?
bello-viaMemberKinda surprised that's the first time I'd run across needing that but now I know. Thanks again! 🙂
bello-viaMemberThat totally worked. Thanks so much Anita! I was thrown by the fact that it said "blog pages show at most ____ posts" and I wanted the blog pages to show at least 5 so I thought for sure that would change the wrong settings for me. Feel like a total idiot for not at least trying it before posting here. Now my transaction ID issue is somewhat less urgent as well. 🙂
bello-viaMemberI'm having trouble finding my emailed receipt. I've found receipts for themes purchased before and after that one but not for that particular theme. I can request a copy through the customer support but I guess I was also curious if I'd just imagined a 'purchases' link or if you can only access it from certain pages on the site. I feel a bit lost yet with the new areas and feel like every now and then I stumble through a rabbit hole but then can't find my way back. 🙂
