You can run WordPress locally with programs like WAMP. And there are others. I am using WAMP on a windows 7 PC.
Depending on your host, you may have other options. WP Engine has a “sandbox” which is pretty cool.

One caution if you do the dev site on a subdomain, make sure to block the search engines from indexing it so no duplicate content problems for ranking. If it is just a page layout I am working on, I create a temporary page /test/ and noindex it and then delete it when I’m done.

    Best of Luck!

Looks like WP Customer Reviews does not support schema and is not mobile responsive.

WP Social Reviews does both. I am looking at that one now. Thanks to Observ2rweb .

Really need this to be product oriented for multiple products and most of these seem to be geared to a service or blog. Wish I could write code!

The Reaktiv one looks geared towards rating posts and I am looking for a product review similar to what we see on Amazon.

WP Customer Reviews looks like it could be what I am looking for.

    Thanks for the responses!

    Thanks nutsandbolts.

I am using Cart66 quite happily thanks to reading your posts previously.

Will give this on a try!

Just noticed it doesn’t seem to mention Rich Snippets or Schema. I think that is a deal breaker. I’ll send the developer a note since it looks very easy to use otherwise.

    @VegasAgent,

Check out http://moz.com/community/recommended on Moz.com for SEO companies that aren’t ripoffs.

I just found this thread after searching the forum for “AddThis”. Hope it is all right to revive it now.

I tried the AddThis share buttons and the smart layers plugins and unfortunately both didn’t really work and seemed buggy. I also noticed the OP’s site no longer has any AddThis stuff. Wonder if @Dallas you had trouble too?

I wanted to thank you guys for the Simple Share recommendation as it works great and seems very resource friendly. Also will look at the table plugins mentioned. I’m using Foo Table now mainly to align images and text horizontally on a page and remain mobile responsive. Maybe there is a better way?

Thanks for the great plugin recommendations!

    Dev,

I am extremely new to this mix and very inexperienced, but I agree wholeheartedly with your observations. While trying to learn Agency, we were aware the Genesis 2.0 / HTML5 transition were coming and even asked should we go forward designing with Agency now or wait for the transition to be completed. We were advised to go forward and all would be fine.
What really bothers me is the lack of information from SP on this issue. The HTML5 conversions of older themes seems to be handled by the community and not supported at all by SP. I would have thought SP would have come up with solutions to guide existing customers through this change. The release of Agency Pro, while a nice theme in it’s own right, is of no help to those of us using the older Agency version. Not even close.

I think this screams “We don’t care about existing customers”. The good news is the community has guided us through this transition, but it makes me wary of continuing as a SP customer.

    Thanks again SK,

I do see the “itemscope” used in the source. Also I was wrong about the automated css converter, it does work and is instant to change your style sheet code. This makes it very fast to convert the site. I haven’t seen any issues yet and all seems to work fine.

I’m going to ask a question I don’t really grasp, but here goes. What about use of in-line css? Does this code need to be updated as well. For us it has usually just been font.

OK, finally felt brave and did it. The hardest thing was getting a local version running to experiment with.

I went through your steps and it all seemed to work as you said. I still don’t really understand what the online css converter did since I had to go through the chart and find and replace all to get the style.css to work.

So is that all there is to the conversion? Is my old Agency theme now just as good as a new “Pro” theme as far as schema and microdata and all that stuff?

    Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately no online link yet as we are developing on a Web Synthesis proxy server right now. I drank the Copyblogger Koolaid apparently. Hasn’t been bad, but not great either. Support is a mixed bag with these guys as far as hosting.

Really seems ridiculous that converting to HTML5 is so difficult. I was hoping the “Pro” version of Agency would be a seamless switch that would accomplish the html5 and schema markup. Not the case.

So I guess the good news is we are not online and can break things without worry.

    Thanks

Thanks Stinkykong for a great response. I am very green and although I have a local Bitnami site installed, I have don’t have a complete duplicate. Could you recommend a backup tutorial or program?

    Thanks

How do you convert the old Agency to HTML5?
