That's correct. It turns out the Genesis Columns Advanced plugin was causing the issue!
The solution, if you're using that plugin, is to add to your functions:
add_filter( 'gca_load_column_styles', '__return_false' );
davidzackMemberI'm having a similar issue. It looks like what should happen is, if you add a featured video, the featured image should automatically populate with a thumbnail from the video.
I'd actually like to use the video itself in the loop instead of an image. So rather than trying to get this feature to work, is it possible to have the loop replace the image with the video if a video exists?
davidzackMemberLook for the media queries in your CSS. For instance, if the breakpoint at which the site becomes full width is 488px, you'll find a query that looks something like this:
@media only screen and (max-width: 488px) {
//STYLES HERE
}Add the condition inside that, like so:
@media only screen and (max-width: 488px) {.sidebar-content #content { float: none; }
}
You can try placing that float clear in different @media widths to find the one that works best for you.
davidzackMemberYou could wrap it in a media query, so that you only clear the float at a mobile width.
davidzackMemberLook in your css for:
.sidebar-content #content
And remove the float:right (or change to float:none.)
It looks like the CSS file is called single.include.966b18.css. Which suggests you might have a caching plugin. If so, you may need to flush the cache after your change.
October 1, 2014 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Firefox vs. Chrome View of Website is Disturbingly Different #126465davidzackMemberI don't see any difference between browsers. It's possible Firefox has a cached version of the CSS. Try clearing the cache and seeing if that fixes it. You can also try a private browsing tab (Control-Shift-P.)
davidzackMemberSounds like your host might be the next thing to investigate.
davidzackMemberYour speed issues could be caused by several things. The themes you're using might be bloated or poorly coded. But it could also be plugins that are adding to the load time. And it could also be your host is slow. Most likely, it's a combination of things.
I would install the P3 Plugin Performance Profiler (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/p3-profiler/) and run that to see if any plugins are adding significantly to the load time.
You can also use a website called http://gtmetrix.com to get some more information about where your site drags.
The Genesis Framework is very tight and can load quickly, but if your issues are caused by plugins, changing your theme may not help. And if your host is slow, the only thing that will help is migrating to a better host...
I know this is pretty general, but hopefully it'll give you some ideas of where to start...
davidzackMemberHave you tried re-uploading the parent Genesis theme? I would just re-add both the parent and child via FTP to see if that fixes it.
davidzackMemberYou would install the new child theme the same way you installed Eleven40. That is, upload the new theme (either via FTP or through your dashboard), then select the new child theme.
You'll then have to set some of the options, such as which menu to use, and you might need to shuffle the widgets. Not all themes have the exact same sidebar array, in which case, the widgets get moved to the inactive area or placed in the wrong sidebar...
davidzackMemberMake sure when you unzip the files, they're not unzipping inside a nested folder. That is, inside your wp-content/themes folder, you should have a folder called genesis and a folder for your child theme, balance.
Inside the genesis folder, you should see /images and /lib folder and then your pages (404,php, comments.php, functions.php, and so forth.) If you have a genesis folder inside the genesis folder and then all these files inside THAT, your unzip program created another folder for the contents of the zip...
Same goes for your /balance folder. Make sure the files are located in wp-content/themes/balance, and not wp-content/themes/balance/BALANCE.
September 23, 2014 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Do You Ask Clients to Purchase Framework and Theme? #125496davidzackMemberThere's certainly no reason to dissuade a client who wants to get that in-depth. And it's a nice thank you to StudioPress that they get to sell an additional license.
September 23, 2014 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Do You Ask Clients to Purchase Framework and Theme? #125469davidzackMemberI generally deliver my sites with documentation and video tutorials for the most common site management tasks. One of the nice things about using WordPress as your framework is that a site owner can empower him/herself to learn as much or as little as he or she wants. Most of the things my clients would ever want to do are more standard WordPress-related tasks, and there are plenty of online resources they can use if they want to become power users.
I don't know that a client has ever had a question for which they would need support directly from StudioPress, though if they ever did their first thought would more likely to contact me than StudioPress, anyway.
So I don't think it's necessary to recommend they purchase a license...
davidzackMemberAh. In that case, go to your dashboard and look under Genesis > Slider Settings. That should tell you what criteria are set for which posts to include. Look for That Taxonomy/Terms option. If you have a Category or taxonomy selected, the slider is filtering to only include items with that option selected.
Your developer may also have selected posts manually by listing their IDs in the List which slide IDs to include/exclude field. If that's the case, simply ad the ID for this post, which you can find by editing the post and looking for the ID in that url.
davidzackMemberIt looks like you're using the Genesis Slider. If you click on a slide on your site, you're taken to that post page. Then you can edit that post. You're most likely using the post's featured image, so if you update the image there in the post, it should reflect the change in the slider.
If there is no Featured Image in the sidebar meta box on the edit post page, your slider may be defaulting to the first image in the body of the post. In that case, simply replace that image.
davidzackMemberIn this case, it's the Beautiful Pro theme. The issue appears to be that, if I'm uploading a new image for the post, it gets used as a featured image. But if I use a post that's already in the library, it does not.
davidzackMemberI never did. It looks like I would have to modify a core file of the plugin to render the custom fields, which would be a bad idea, since that could be lost with an update.
davidzackMemberI think I'm trying to do the same thing. If a post has a Featured Image set, the thumbnail appears on the side of the teaser in the loop. But if the post does not have a featured image, I'd like the loop to use the first image in the post's body. Can't seem to figure out how to add that behavior.
