freddieMember
thanks brad, i re-installed and things seem normal again.
the one thing i have been struggling with is getting the typeface sizes right, they seem all out of kilter.
is there a plug-in for that? because now i've been burned trying to fix it in the code and the php.functions i reckon i should try another route.. if you could recommend a plug-in that'd be great.
freddieMemberThat sounds good. Where do I download a new copy, though, or can I re-use the version I originally bought?
freddieMemberone thing which it might be is that the site has somehow been put on wordpress.com, because when i log in to the admin the adress is:
http://oomkenscom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
i have tried to move it to .org using the import-export technique but although the email came saying it haqd worked, nothing changed.
does anyone have an idea what i could do to get out of this hole?
freddieMemberanyone else got an idea what's wrong?
freddieMemberI wish that were true, Brad!
But I don't see an upload file anywhere when I go to Appearance > Themes.
Maybe they moved it somewhere else?
freddieMemberThanks Brad but that video is out of date and no use in this case.
As I mentioned, when I go to Appearance > Themes, I don't get a link to "Install Themes" like they show on the video. (If I did, I wouldn't have asked the question.)
All I get is "Manage Themes" - and no matter where I search, I cannot find how to instal Genesis for my subdomain.
freddieMemberOkay, I have installed WordPress for the subdomain and can get to the admin page for the site.
How do I now install Genesis and the Genesis Sample?
When I go to Appearance > Themes I get a page of WordPress themes but there is no link to Genesis -
and when I go to Tools > Import I get a list of suggestions but nothing to do with importing a Framework or a Theme -
- where can I track my Genesis down so that I can use it to create my new site?
freddieMemberi've been trying to do that but am getting nowhere.
if i go to my subdomain page on bluehost there is no option there to install wordpress.
if i go into simple scripts i get to the page saying i've installed wordpress (as a "script") which i did for the first site - and when i log in to the admin there i don't find any options to install wordpress for the second site either.. where should i be looking?
freddieMembersokrates - that's fixed the font size issue, thanks!
freddieMemberi did the first one but it hasn't changed the size of the sidebar font - it's still way bigger than any of the others on the site.
freddieMemberthanks guys, here's the link:
- you're right, i'm looking to do really basic things to tidy it up and make the typeface sizes & colours cohere a bit better, and i guess i was hoping genesis would help me to do that...
i also have other sites/blogs i am migrating over from blogger and wordpress.com, and am planning to launch more in the future - so i was hoping to learn the basics so i could set them up and run them myself - (i am more of a content maker/writer than a designer, obviously...)
freddieMemberoh hi brad that's a very kind offer.
the old site was an off the shelf blogger design (and it showed) and no longer exists as i migrated it to wordpress.org.
i wanted something that looked more professional but am having a terrible time getting there, because to use genesis, you needs to know code (which isn't how they advertise it).
the site now looks terrible now for several reasons:
(i) i can't work out how to reduce the size of the font in the sidebar (the genesis video i saw showed a "design" option in the menu where you could do that but that option no longer exists - for some reason - so you have to know where to go in the code, which i managed to do for the headline and the body copy, but i haven't yet found out for the sidebar);
(ii) there are lines running across the site - i realize this is probably something i cannot change on this child theme (sample) but it seems absurd to advertise you can customize a site but then you don't allow something so simple.
there's lots of other things i want to do but i think i shall have to work out how to fix such really basic things first.
thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction for any of this.
