Yes, I've checked the obvious spots to allow comments. But on this blog page there is no mention of comments at all, open or closed. No space to make a comment, no options. So it's gotta be in the code somewhere?
janburgMemberYes, perfect, thank you!
March 2, 2018 at 3:13 pm in reply to: deleting bottom footer menu, but still using the menu in a footer widget #217226janburgMemberYippee! So nice to finish out a Friday on a high note. I did have to take out two more sections of code, // Reposition the secondary navigation menu, and / Reduce the secondary navigation menu to one level depth, and voila, the bottom footer menu is gone, but I still have the menu in the 3 column footer. Thanks for the help!
November 11, 2017 at 1:44 pm in reply to: updated WP, now home page only has color covering logo #213489janburgMemberOk, I can live with the H1 headers being tight on the other pages if I have to clear this up on the home page. But it still doesn't make any sense that it was ONLY the home page that had this issue. Either all pages should have had the blue line or none, not just one. There has to be some logic to this, but I'm not seeing it.
November 11, 2017 at 9:05 am in reply to: updated WP, now home page only has color covering logo #213481janburgMemberOk, that helps, but I set up that styling for other pages, can't really change that. I did find that by eliminating the title and tag line under the customize page on the WP dashboard, I was able to get rid of the blue box over the logo, instead, there is now a blue line at the top of the header. But again, ONLY on the homepage. Is there someplace in the php or templates that treats the header on the home page differently than on the other pages?
September 7, 2017 at 2:31 pm in reply to: responsive design moving one column under another for mobile #211199janburgMemberI was able to get the columns one under the other, but I'd much rather have column 1 as the bottom column. Is this possible? then the top line that is going over column 1 would be in the right place, above column 2. If this makes sense? You sorta have to see the whole page on a desktop and a mobile device to see what i mean.
janburgMemberOk, let's start again. I want my secondary menu to have different font styling than the main menu. How do I connect my styling to the secondary nav? Right now the style is being overwritten by the .genesis-nav-menu styling, which I don't want to change as this is what the main menu is set up for. I need TWO separate menu stylings.
To my poor confused brain, it would seem that there's someplace within Genesis that points the secondary nav to the main nav settings - is this in the php? How do I separate the two menus?
janburgMemberThank you for showing me what I have. Now what I need is a clue as to how to get this to work. Is that thru the footer or functions.php file? How exactly do I connect the code I have to the secondary nav menu?
janburgMemberThanks for the link to your blog post. But that doesn't really help me understand what I am missing in my current set up. Are you saying I need to add this css in the .nav-secondary area instead of creating a .genesis-nav-footer-menu item?
April 11, 2016 at 6:31 pm in reply to: adding home page template to genesis frameworks theme #183422janburgMemberI was working with a developer but he passed away over the weekend, very sudden, very young, very shocking. So until I get another developer to work with me, I'm trying to muddle thru on my own.
I created the front-page.php file, added the php code from the slider developer just before calling for Genesis
'// add your queries or custom structure here
wd_slider(2);
}
genesis(); ?>'then used this as the template for my home page but to no avail. Do I need to combine the header.php with the front-page.php to get what I want?
April 2, 2016 at 11:59 am in reply to: adding full width field under nav, above sidebar and content #182760janburgMemberThe plugin will not work with my older version of Frameworks, according to the error message I get when I try to install it.
I don't know PHP so your link is very confusing to me, so many options, and not a clear picture of where the code goes in what file - header or functions.php? and what to change if I am using a different slider program.
Also, if anyone else is reading this, I would like to place the slider below the main menu, in the above examples it has it above the menu in the header area.
March 30, 2016 at 3:07 pm in reply to: Only on post page, the title area is showing a blue block over the logo #182557janburgMemberThat would work, but then it removes the background behind the headers on the rest of the pages. I just need it off the title block on the posts page. Is there a way to specify that block, or remove it from the page? I am not using the title, just the logo.
March 29, 2016 at 12:17 pm in reply to: adding full width field under nav, above sidebar and content #182473janburgMemberunfortunately the Genesis Simple Hooks plugin doesn't work with my older version of Frameworks 1.8. And the client doesn't have the budget for me to redo the site with a newer version. I did try that but it just totally messed up the site, php errors and css all messed up. So for now I need to stay with what works and just update that.
Is there a way to use this code in the functions.php without the plugin?
janburgMembershould have noted I'm using Genesis frameworks with a child theme.
janburgMemberThis is what I'm looking for. But is there a way to find this out without having to sign up and pay for a full month at only $49.99?
Thanks!
janburgMemberYeah, I think there's a lot more out there who don't understand the ease of browsing and the usefulness of standards in making things easier for them.
But my head pounding is over on this one, the client and I decided to part ways. Whew! I pity the next poor soul who has to work with them. This wasn't the only straw on that camel's back.
janburgMemberno, the only one I purchased was Frameworks, and no previous versions are showing. I do have a version 1.8 somewhere, will have to see if that goes back far enough.
janburgMemberI went to the archived themes page but there weren't any themes listed there.
janburgMemberI learn by trying things over and over - I'm looking at this job as a good code skills challenge. Thanks for the tips, I'll try these out!
janburgMemberI know that, you know that, but these young engineers know they are right. I was told in very certain terms that they wanted the site to just shrink, they do NOT want the menu to fold into separate lines, they don't depend on Google for getting new clients, and that everyone has the technology now to just enlarge the screen where they want to read it.
I get tired of banging my head on the wall, so I just give them what they want. When they get the complaints from their customers, they can come back to get it done right, at a higher price. This is one of those PITA clients, designing by committee. Vent over! ha!
