Found it! Was at the top of the page. Now marked as resolved.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantMe too. I'd put a bit of time into this one and didn't want to have to start again... at least not for a while 🙂
This one can be marked as resolved now - don't think I can do it at my end. Thank you.

kathiemtParticipantFound the problem. Nick responded overnight (my time) and suggested I deactivate all my plugins and put them back on a few at a time. I reset the theme and individual page layout and checked the site. It all was how I wanted it. So then I put on a few at a time and it was working fine, right till the very last plugin and then it went awry again.
It is a plugin I was using for a previous theme and don't need for this one so will delete it but have notified Nick and will contact the plugin developer to let them know too, as it looks like there must be an incompatibility between the two. It's probably rare and unlikely that anyone would be using the same plugin on this theme I expect as they wouldn't be installing the plugin to use on this theme.
Thanks again, both of you for your assistance in helping me and I appreciate Nick's time too.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantThanks, both of you. Do you think this is a theme issue or a WordPress issue?
I had thought that with fresh new responses this thread would show up as something that was continuing which is how most forums work. Well, the ones I hang around anyway. Unless designers are only specifically looking at threads that have no responses?
Because it's not obvious where to find the threads with no replies (unless you look in the FAQ section) I expect many here wouldn't know where those threads are? Unless you mean most designers?
At any rate, I appreciate your responses and hope that someone comes up with an answer. I have been in touch with Nick from support as well since I couldn't find an answer here yesterday and he is looking for ideas on what could be causing it.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantYes, I did put it as instructed. Thank you, I appreciate you researching it. I have been too. I was also told about a Flickr plugin that might work but that produced an error code when activating it. I guess I'll have to do the manual thing and upload for a featured image - a smaller version so that I'm not adding too much to the hosted space. Thanks for your efforts, I do appreciate them.
If WordPress still had the function for making the image a feature in the window when I view the image it might have worked, but it no longer appears to be there.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantSorry, back again. I have inserted that code into my function.php as directed. And I've now added a new blog post with 3 images that are inserted via the url address. However, none are showing up as a thumbnail on the home page and when I go to the featured image portion in Add Media there isn't anywhere to add a URL for an image.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what is supposed to be happening here Brad?

kathiemtParticipantWhat did you want to do with the menu that the menu function doesn't do Owen?
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantHi Miguel, can you provide the URLs for the two sites in question please, so someone can have a look?
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantHi Jim, I'm just working with this theme too and learning how it works. It is a bit different to some of the other themes, as far as functionality is.
What do you mean 'CTA'?
Re #2 - do you mean you want people to click on the services section menu item to go to http://jimstalker.com/whats-your-brand/? In which case you need to edit this in the menu section, under Appearance. If that's not what you mean, perhaps explain a little more?
Re #3 - I haven't seen the previous discussion. Did you have a plugin installed for the Author Box or what were you doing for that?
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantYou couldn't suggest that people right+click to do a Save As?

June 8, 2013 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Images not showing for blogposts using Modern Portfolio theme #44846kathiemtParticipantUnfortunately it produces an error code when activating the plugin. I've googled the error message but nothing comes up. I'll go off to wordpress.org to see if anyone has any idea of what it means. Thanks for your help.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantThank you Anita. I wonder how many others have this same challenge with the new forum? Perhaps a 'sticky' tip at the top of the forum relating to searches might help?
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantThanks, I've seen the screenshots where you can get the themes - I was just hoping to see what different people had done with them.
I've chosen to go with Modern Portfolio but am having challenges with some parts of it. I'd chosen it because of what I'd seen others do with it. Perhaps I'll have to play with these others to see what I can come up with?
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantI don't understand why I need to submit a new post? Is this because no-one else will look at it because it's had responses? I don't know how the system works here if that's the case.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantThank you for your time Brad. I'll let you know how I go.
I checked your sig links and I used to live near you in Cheltenham, till almost 4 years ago. As you might have guessed I'm up near the Puffing Billy now.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantYes, thank you. I didn't know what a rem was - hadn't come across that before. Read up on it and believe it basically means that if the px is 16 then the rem is 1.6 or thereabouts. I ended up changing all the rem references and now the fonts have downsized. I couldn't work out why changing the px sizes wasn't working.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantI guess the timing is part of it Anita. I'm in Australia so that will often mean there's no-one line here when I am. But I have noticed many times that responses here do show up long before I get them by email. I leave the browser tab open, refresh and find an answer and when I check my email it's still not there.
I would love to be able to see forum responses to themes - like the old forum. This one I spend a LOT more time doing searches trying to find out if someone has asked the same question as me before I post it. In the old forum I could simply search threads for a particular theme.

Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantHow do I find out how to do the coding please Brad? I'll need to be doing this for every post I do - and that's usually several times a week. So is it a code in the css or function.php or per post? The second option is probably the best one, so that the first image for each post is used. Although I guess either will be fine.
Kathie Thomas
kathiemtParticipantThe key thing I need to know, though, is how to make an image a featured image if I'm using an embedded code from Flickr. I don't want to be uploading images to host on my site.
I remember seeing, at one time, an option to make an image a featured image in the edit window for images. But it's not there. I'm using WP 3.5.1 so don't know if it's been removed, or whether it's not available because I used embedded code for my images, rather than uploading to my site.
And yes, it's still chugging along. Just heard its whistle - the dinner train is out tonight.
