    Thanks a lot.

    If anyone wants to change ‘Speak your mind’ to ‘Leave a comment’ (rather than ‘Leave a Comment’ – with a ‘C’) all you need to do is add to your functions.php file:

    ‘/** Modify the speak your mind text */
    add_filter( ‘genesis_comment_form_args’, ‘custom_comment_form_args’ );
    function custom_comment_form_args($args) {
    $args[‘title_reply’] = ‘Leave a comment';
    return $args;
    }

    I’ve now found the solution. If you want to change your post navigation colors, go Post Navigation in your style.css file

    My css now looks like this: (that’s darker background behind page numbers and a red active background with a white number)

    .navigation li a,
    .navigation li.disabled,
    .navigation li a:hover,
    .navigation li.active a {
    -moz-border-radius: 3px;
    -webkit-border-radius: 3px;
    background-color: #eee;
    border-radius: 3px;
    color: #777;
    font-size: 11px;
    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-weight: bold;
    padding: 8px 12px;
    text-decoration: none;
    }

    .navigation li a:hover,
    .navigation li.active a {
    background-color: #BA0202;
    color: #fff;
    }

    Susan, you’ve made my day.

    How do I now customize the page number background color? I’d like to make them all a darker gray and the active one orange. I’ve looked in my css file, but  I can’t see where to do it there. Any clues?

    The very simply change to the functions.php file works great.

    Thanks. I found that and I’m working on it.

    I can confirm that both addresses match.

    My avatar appears on posts and comments, but not on my blog’s sidebar.

    When I go to Settings / Discussion I can get one of the generic avatars as the image shown on my sidebar, but I don’t get the option of choosing my own avatar.

    How do I get my picture to show on my blog’s sidebar? Do I need a plugin or a change in the code?

    I’m using Balance.

    In the post info section I deleted the date and the word ‘by’.

    I also deleted the footer back to top link, and all the footer credits text.

    The rest was left untouched.

    OK. I’ve now figured it out. In case there’s someone else with the same problem, here’s the solution:

    The original .css was:

    .sidebar .widget {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #ddd;
    margin: 0 0 30px;
    padding: 0 0 30px;
    }

    Now I have:

    .sidebar .widget {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #ddd;
    margin: 0 0 10px;
    padding: 20px 20px 20px;
    }

    On my .css I’ve tried changing to zero just about every margin and padding I can see. Nothing seems to work. The text moves to the edges every time. Perhaps you can give me a clue as to which margin you’re referring to?

    Thanks.

    Brian, thanks. The Simple Edits plugin did the trick, and I was also able to remove the post date. I’ve now restored the functions.php file to the original.

    Outside? That would look ugly. What I want is what this other blog has done: http://www.janscarbrough.com/biography/

    (See sidebar lines reaching the edges, rather than covering only the same area as the text because of the padding)

    anitac, thanks.

    Can anyone confirm whether using the Simple Edits plugin is better than doing php changes? I’m thinking long term and possible problems with upgrades. Thanks.

    On my blog’s sidebar there’s technically only one horizontal line, which gets repeated after each section. The social media icons, for instance, have a line above and below them.

    I’d like that bar to reach the edges of the white area, but I haven’t found a way of doing it.

    Yes, I’ve come across that in many posts, but you need to remove the <p> … </p>:

    /** Customize the entire footer */
    remove_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_footer' );
    add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'custom_footer' );
    function custom_footer() {
        ?>
        <p>&copy; Copyright 2012 <a href="http://mydomain.com/">My Domain</a> &middot; All Rights Reserved &middot; Powered by <a href="http://wordpress.org/">WordPress</a> &middot; <a href="http://mydomain.com/wp-admin">Admin</a></p>
        <?php
    }

    What you need to put on your functions.php is:

    /** Customize the entire footer */
    remove_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_footer' );
    add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'custom_footer' );
    function custom_footer() {
        ?>
        <?php
    }

    I’ve posted this in case others want to remove that line too.
