Hi – it appears you are a little more than put off but it may not be as bad as you think.

I too am unhappy with the forums compared to the original but that is the way it is.

We upgraded to the new Metro Pro 2.0 and are generally O.K with it.

I do not see a changelog or anything terribly innovative so maybe it is all hidden under the hood.

Upgrading a Genesis Theme is nowhere seamless as upgrading Windows for e.g. but maybe for the future?

Metro Pro 2.0 looks a little wonky on FireFox with my personalized settings, fonts etc. but renders fine on other browsers we have set aside for testing and installed out of the box without altering any settings.

Tested it on cell phones, Apple and iPads we keep just for that and it looks good.

Upgrading from Metro 1 to 2 breaks most everything you will have on your custom home page, widgets etc. so that may be your problem. I too was frightened when the home page blew up on me ;o) But just switch back to old Metro while you gather your thoughts and everything should be fine.

You can take notes with pencil and paper of all your widgets and settings, or open a new tab to work on the new version of the theme and copy and paste them one by one.

Took us about a day’s work to get everything working the way we want but that is just us with many widgets and then we had some problems getting W3 Total cache tuned up again as some of the Metro 2.0 JS files were simply not cooperating but it is running near well for us now.

I am sure Brian is listening and will address any further concerns. The guy is a genius and his work is solid.

Why do you wish to remove the primary sidebar?

Is it that you wish to display different content in the sidebar for the Home Page and the Inside Pages?

What exactly are your problems with W3 Total cache?

The plugin was updated a couple days ago.

W3 Total cache is tricky to set up properly but once configured can give your site a major boost in speed – especially if you have a good host.

Could it be the WPSEO plugin that you are using?

Perhaps you could empty the cache and disable it to see if it makes a difference?

Brian said: “No, there’s really not anything in 1.9 that’s more innovative than what Joost put into his plugin.”

I would suggest you drop SEO efforts for Genesis as other frameworks are doing. This is a very specialized field and most will go with the market leaders. The Author Rel is stale and is much better left to experts like YOAST. Having these in frameworks adds to confusion I think and more support requirements.

I too would like an answer to this please Brian.

How does Woocommerce by Woothemes compare to Premise?

We are not familiar as we are not currently selling anything right now but purchased Premise and put it on the shelf for some future project based purely on Brian’s recommendations.

The Premise example sites are kitschy in our opinion but we still went ahead and purchased it.

Or are these two different types of animals?

Is there an independent comparison and review of the two?

    Do either support 2 Checkout?

Saradee wrote” “One of the reasons I chose Genesis over Woothemes was the ease of finding solutions in the Genesis forums.”

Same here. I will not easily give my money to faceless corps that do not have a healthy community forum with back and forth from customers and structured in an easy to access way. Our hosting decision was also based on this criteria and we changed hosts like 5 times before settling on what has been the best for us.

Woothemes has some interesting solutions and I see the WordPress framework / themes marketplace filling up with more and more competition. The original Genesis Forums were the best in this market segment and more so because they LISTENED and earned our trust.

P.S. I just took a peek at the aforementioned company mentioned above and see they have just announced they have listened and are bringing back their support forums with all the original forum content. We are not customers of them. Maybe Brian can take a look and see if this will have any bearing on the need to have this boat sail back ;o)

I too am very concerned and posted it in this topic:

    http://www.studiopress.com/forums/topic/building-community/

But Nick deleted it or is moving it to this thread right now.

    Nick said:

“The theme specific forums end up adding uneeded bloat.”

    and then added:

“Once I post this thread I’m going to start a new thread titles “Fitness and Development” where I’m going to talk a bit about fitness and why that is important to me right now.”

I suggest he add a sub forum on Yoga and another on Para Sailing which is very popular in Belize.

But to also add sub forums for each Theme sold by Genesis / Studio Press.

It is the logical thing to do and makes it easier for community building for customers to learn about how an issue specific to a Theme has been addressed by a fellow community member or by Genesis / Studio Press.

A customer from back in the day when I did not even know how to install Word Press but learned it in the original forums from the experts at Genesis / Studio Press and the community.

Now where is my signature ;o)

    Second the motion!

Theme Specific Forums are a Requirement.

I am a supporter from way back in the day when I did not even know how to install Word Press and Brian was just starting out selling a magazine theme.

I learned a lot from the great community we used to have, especially from the Genesis staff, and seeing how they had helped solve a customer’s problem in a specific theme that I owned.

I am lost and wondering about this ghost town feeling homeless ;o)

“There are some other cool things coming in 1.9 such as Google Authorship profiles.”

Is this anything more innovative compared to the YOAST WordPress Plugin?

We’ve had great success using the YOAST SEO Plugin that has the Google Authorship already built in along with lots of other goodies…
