Susan,
Yeah, the midwest/southwest is a different culture. I live near DC now, so when I am forced to go to the City we walk everywhere, or take the metro. Actually we usually park at Vienna station, the first metro station on our way in, so I don’t have to deal with traffic inside the beltway at all.
I live in a more rural setting and I think if I tried walking into town, which is only 3 miles, I’d be run over. Fortunately people are pretty cool about it if I’m walking in town. So if I’m not in a hurry I like to park in one place and walk everywhere.
When I lived in the midwest and south west I never walked, no one ever walked. I did start bike riding till I nearly got run over.
Let me know how things go and if we have a Genesis Connect event at South By Southwest again you need to come meet the crew. It is jut down the road in Austin.
@apt,
I encourage you and other users to fill in the tag with the theme they are using when asking questions.
@cleo,
The moderators are in these forums too. Go check the Design Tips forum. Several of the mods have already posted some cool tips for users and have answered some of the user customization questions. I can’t guarantee every custom request will be answered, but we aren’t writing it off just changing the format a bit so we don’t miss support requests.
Any new forum will need time to develop usable material. This is one of the reasons the old forums will be left open. One way you can be a “super star” in these forums would be sharing information your find helpful from the old forums. This forum is building at about the same pace as the old forums already. A few years ago you wouldn’t find anything in the old forums. These will catch up and with a fresh start we have a much better foundation for building community involvement. If you check things out you will see that community members are already stepping up to help answer questions and share their own tips. This is exactly what we had hoped for.
That is trickier. You have to do away with the custom header and manually set a background for #header then a seperate background for either #header .wrap or the #title-area depending on what you are trying to accomplish. You also need to make some responsive CSS to compensate if you are using a responsive theme like this.
try adding this to your style sheet
#header {
background-position: center !important;

You need to register for an avatar at Gravatar.com
Here is a theme that already has it integrated so you can get a head start
This is going to require JS and some fancy CSS to make happen. The simple part is set your sidebars to position: fixed;
But if you notice, the thenextweb.com site fixes the sidebar position but it uses JS to let the header show, then the sidebar to slide up and get fixed in another position. There is probably some other magic happening that fits them to teh size of the screen too.
Andrea, … yeah you totally need to get on that avatar. How dare you not update with each iteration of your hair. It’s not like I’ve been using the same avatar for 5 years …
Susan,
Seriously, I’m touched. Thanks. Yes, we both plan on participating in these forums. We may not be able to answer everything but one thing that helps us do a great job in support is being able to answer questions that are beyond what we would normally be able to answer in support. I know I learn a lot when I can tackle an interesting question and come up with a solution.
I’ll probably drop some occasional tutorials in the Design Tips and Tricks section and have a couple of topics I want to start in the General Discussion to see about getting some interesting conversations going.
Hopefully those will have people participating so we can have a better community here as a whole, not just a place to go for support.
One this that really helps is if you leave the original post then follow up with your solution. When you do this other users will benefit when they are searching these forums. Thanks.
road2ruin,
Basically, customization questions will be directed here. It just doesn’t work to write up entire template files in the support portal. We don’t have the resources to provide unlimited customizations. We would have to charge more like $1000 per theme and $30,000 for Pro Plus to even come close to being able to hire enough qualified support personal to write custom solutions for everyone. In those instances we ask you to put your question before the community. We can’t guarantee the community will answer, but that is the same as what we would have done in the old forums.
November 16, 2012 at 10:37 pm in reply to: lines going through field labels and footer text on a page #400Just as a follow up. I am continuing to help in the support desk on this. If you get a good solution here, please let me know. Thanks.
