Wow, no sooner did I post this, something that I said in the first message triggered a thought: Genesis Simple Hooks.
I could've (perhaps should've) just deleted this, but I just wanted to note how grateful I am for having access to such a wonderfully flexible framework as Genesis!

rdrParticipantHi, Victor. Thank you for your response. I appreciate your help.
Could you give me a few pointers as to those standard ways should I decide to move away from the Getty embedded images and use my own instead?
Thank you again!
-- Robert
rdrParticipantThat was, indeed, it, Victor. Thank you for the nudge. Clearing the cache made the changes show up.

rdrParticipantAppreciate the direction, Lynne. I hadn't considered that. I'll give it a go.
Later... And I did. This certainly requires a little more hand coding, but the result is excellent.
Have a look: http://rsnstats.com/papi-not-only-storyline-of-2016 and thanks again.

rdrParticipantAgain, Brad, thank you for your help. With your guidance I figured out how to add a new widget area and populate it (as well as conditionally display it adter the header but only on the front page of my site.
The results are at http://www.rsnstats.com.
I'm very grateful for your help. Thanks again.

rdrParticipantBrad -- Thank you very much for the response.
Thanks for the links. I didn't realize that I could add additional widget areas. This really helps me better understand the value of the framework.
Again, much appreciated.

rdrParticipantThanks for the quick reply, Ren. Much appreciated.
I don't exactly follow when you say, "You don’t need to worry about your customizations being overwritten because the child theme is never updated. If you find that you need to restart, you can just install a fresh copy of the child theme."
If I insert new code or changes into the Minimum Pro's style.css file, for example, and then had to reinstall Minimum Pro to start over I will, in fact, lose my changes.
I'm sure I'm misunderstanding the proper way to modify a StudioPress theme. Any guidance is very much appreciated.

rdrParticipantRyan -- I'm loading and then calling the Javascript library inside a script tags that I types into the the Text tab of the new post page in WordPress. I have been able to verify through debugging consoles that the load is working. I've also been able to execute simple, limited Javascript (such as writing text to the generated HTML) this way, so I know that my script tags are being respected.
That said, I realize that just because some simple tests work, it doesn't mean I'm doing things the right way. For example, loading the two.js library into this page may be OK when you're using it on this page alone, but should it be loaded that way if I were to call it from ten different pages? I would think not (i.e., that it should be loaded from some central point once and then called repeatedly from various other pages).
-- Robert
rdrParticipantExcellent! Thank you for the direction.
