I've changed a child theme name using the tutorial I linked to, but I didn't bother changing references to the original child theme name in any other places.
SusanModeratorHere's the other thread with the same issue:

April 8, 2013 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Do i need a child theme ? and if so which one to do this ? #34094SusanModerator- I see what you mean about adding categories to the content of your page. I don't think there is a theme which does that without some kind of customization, but adding html as you suggested would work.
- Brian Gardner (founder of StudioPress) has written a great tutorial about adding a home page widgeted area:
http://www.briangardner.com/home-widget-area-eleven40/
- The eleven40 theme has a small text widget on the home page with blog posts underneath. The text widget can be expanded to put whatever you want in there.
- The "Adorable" theme is another theme which I know of which comes with a home page widget with posts underneath. It's not the default layout of the theme, but it comes with instructions for setting it up that way, but any theme which has posts on the home page can have a widgeted area added to the top following the instructions I linked to above.
- The Minimum theme has four home page widgets followed by posts, as another example.

if they are hosted on Synthesis, they have turned it off

SusanModeratorI use these instructions: http://www.wpsyntax.com/wordpress/how-to-rename-genesis-child-theme
/** Child theme (do not remove) */ define( ‘CHILD_THEME_NAME’, __( ‘Executive Theme’, ‘executive’ ) );
So, in the example you provided, you would replace 'Executive Theme' with the name of your child theme.
SusanModerator1. Did you put the footer snippets into your theme functions.php file? Where in the file did you put it? (I recommend the Simple Edits plugin for those changes - it's easier than messing with the functions.php file)
2. To make the date appear, go to Genesis > Theme Settings > Navigation Extras, and select "today's date" from the drop-down.
3. I'm not sure what css suggestions you are looking for (I will admit to not having watched the video!) What are you looking to do?April 8, 2013 at 1:55 pm in reply to: Do i need a child theme ? and if so which one to do this ? #34071SusanModeratorHi, @omg:
I cannot answer all of your questions, but wanted to offer you some direction for at least some of your questions:
- You shouldn't make changes to your core Genesis files. You will need a child theme.
- If you want a free child theme, then try Sample, which is the child theme based on the pure Genesis framework
- Genesis has built in SEO capability, but others swear by Yoast's plugin.
- to add categories to your menu is fairly straightforward under Dashboard > Menus > Categories (select the ones you want), and then select "Add to Menu".
- If you want your latest posts to show on your home page, you cannot accomplish that right out of the box with a static page. The point of a static page is to have non-changing content. You can have a widgetized home page with some widgets with static content, and then posts underneath.
- You can add feedburner to wherever you would like on your site - most people choose either header right or their sidebar.
- You can add an e-mail opt-in widget to your front page, or sidebar.SusanModeratorTry http://www.pickonkey. It's free, and she can overlay a watermark image over another image.

April 7, 2013 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Support Using Meteor Slides with AgentPress Child Theme #33815SusanModeratorAlan:I don't have any feedback on the plugin as I have never used it, but as you asked this question a number of weeks back, and nobody chimed in, I thought I would provide some feedback about slider sizes etc. Each child theme is different, but for a 960px wide site, for example, if you have one sidebar of 300px, you wouldn't want to have your slider be much wider than 650px. A wider site can accommodate a wider slider, just as a homepage without a sidebar can do that same.I just finished a site on Metro, which is 1152px wide, and my slider was 765px, which seemed to be a decent enough size.Let me know if you are having issues, or need additional assistance!
