The "Genesis Featured Images" plugin will do the trick I think. I used it with some success with this child theme.
August 29, 2013 at 7:44 am in reply to: Minimum Pro – How can I control the background image re-sizing #59515TimtuitingMemberI can confirm that a solution is in the works.
TimtuitingMemberThanks. I was well aware of the photo size. Actually, it is precisely because I pay attention to details that I have been complaining. The Minimum Pro child theme does have some problems with the way it handles the homepage background image. I expect the good folks at Copyblogger to attend to it and bring back the beauty of its predecessor.
TimtuitingMemberI am working on things. Seems to be better but not sure why.
TimtuitingMemberVery strange indeed. I get the same thing in all 3 of the major browsers (Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.)
But when I check things out on my MacBook Pro Retina model things look much as in your photo. So is this a problem with my computer that spans different browsers. Very odd.
TimtuitingMemberSridhar,
Do you mean that presently at http://realasiamyu.com you see the entire bridge and not just the roof? The original photo is here http://thebraganzadowry.com/wp-content/gallery/hoi-an/hoi-an-japanese-bridge-1.jpg. (I have resized it, of course, to 1600 x 1050). Do you really see this or at least most of it? If so, the problems are very different than I expected.TimtuitingMemberPerhaps.
The image you see is exactly 1600 X 1050. The problem is that once uploaded only a very small portion of the photo ends up being visible on the front page. I have struggled and struggled to find photos that actually end up having something worth seeing. Let me change the photo to something else. The photo dimensions will stay the same. You will see the problem more clearly. It is just unacceptable to be expected to search and search for a photo that the theme happens to crop so that it looks half decent.
TimtuitingMemberResolved.
TimtuitingMemberSo this feature is gone in the new Minimum Pro?! Sad that we have to fiddle with code 🙁
TimtuitingMemberI just mean the featured image for posts.
TimtuitingMemberThanks. I did increase the size of the background image and it looks okay. The main point is that Minimum Pro and Minimum are totally different now in terms of the front page. I kind of liked the old way though the new way is interesting. I really think that people should be told much more about this change, though. Come on Brian!
TimtuitingMemberFollow-up
It seems the way the image on the front page is used is completely different from 2.0. I uploaded a giant photo and now it looks sort of decent. You need to get a photo that looks good at the top, though. The effect is interesting and found in quite a few other themes. I am not sure why I can see glimpses of the entire photo whereas this is not the case in the demo.TimtuitingMember1) I also have problem with the image on the homepage. The Get Started info gives you the impression that this is a walk in the park compared to what was the case in 2.0 where the image had to be uploaded using FTP and renamed sample.jpg. However, my image is not cropping at all though it is the same size as the image I used in 2.o (1600 X 600 per the suggestions.)
2) I do not think the fonts in the the new iteration stand out as well as in 2.0. Or am I missing something?
3) I am not seeing my featured image showing up in the post at all, It used to show beautifully across the top of the post.
Overall, a bit disappointed so far.
