but i found this works for my sites as a fix:
- download genesis theme 2.10 stylesheet - i found an old site of mine that had not updated yet and grabbed that
- put in a new folder. i called mine genesisstyle, upload this folder into my child theme theme folder, ie: /wp-content/themes/childtheme/genesisstyle
- Download my child theme /wp-content/themes/child theme/style.css
- Edit style sheet of theme: /wp-content/themes/child theme/style.css
for me roughly line 22
@import url("../genesis/style.css");
to:
/*@import url("../genesis/style.css");*/
@import url("genesisstyle/style.css");
this seems to work
tomwgfMemberthe parent theme was Genesis Framework. the child theme was my own, it added a few things in functions and added tweaks over the parent stylesheet
tomwgfMemberthe parent theme sets up all the standard columns width etc - about 1600 lines of style according to 2.10 stylesheet.
my child theme stylesheet tweaks things, font, colours, backgrounds etc..
maybe adds a few images
adds a few things to the homepage via functions...tomwgfMemberno i am fixing them as fast as i can.
ok so, genesis will not be supplying any standard styling for the base theme from now on?
i have downloaded 2.10 style and have uploaded the style to my child theme and changed import link:
/*@import url("../genesis/style.css");*/
@import url("genesisstyle/style.css");September 23, 2014 at 8:25 am in reply to: Searchbox in primary nav disappears on magazine-pro mobile #125426tomwgfMemberphew - thats what i thought

so, who knew you dont need ?> anymore - everyone but me it seems.
and thanks for explaining about the genesis sample theme - wasn't sure what that was - its a skeleton child theme!
and it comes with a google font importer!friday afternoon is a big improvement on the hairloss of friday morning.
thank you so much
tomwgfMemberAh I see.
What you were saying is change a genesis theme (which are known as child themes to the genesis framework theme) and edit theme using the functions.php code from nick the geek.while i am going the long way round by making a (normal wordpress style) child theme, ie my own theme.
got you - thanks very much for your help.
have a good weekend

i have looked through nick the geeks site and it does have a lot of info on the functions file and it talks about using this with a child theme - but the one thing is does not mention ( that i can find) is how to set up a child theme.Ok found this - http://coolestguidesontheplanet.com/creating-wordpress-child-theme-genesis-framework/
it tells you to set up a child theme in the normal way but also adds some code to the functions file. Seems to work though worried by the general lack of closing php - ?>tomwgfMemberhi kellylise
thanks for replying so fast.
i will read that expanation now. but/so a theme from genesis is considered a childthteme, even though it can be overwritten by an update.
would i use the normal WP method of making a childtheme of a genesis child theme? which could then have a style.css functions.php and template pages?
i'll go and make a cup of tea and read that link
thanks
