Fairway: A Free Child Theme For Genesis

I am very happy to announce the release of the Fairway child theme for the Genesis Framework. Fairway will be one of many free child themes that we plan to make available for download.

Fairway is a “blog” theme, which includes features such as 6 page layouts, custom background, custom header, custom menus, footer widgets, threaded comments. (click to see demo)

  1. Nice! Fairly plain and simple that will allow some modification.

    Like it guys.

    • Thanks – that’s the idea. Some folks want something easy to use and to customize. Using custom header and few CSS changes, you can have your own look!

  2. Once again, a wonderful theme and perfect timing as I was just splitting navigation exactly the way you have it on the basic child theme! StudioPress is the best investment I ever made!

    • Hey Chris – that’s great news… I’m trying to offer up a bit of variety (with keeping things simple) on the free child themes that we provide.

      • Man, I hate to belabor the point, but at $299, even if you’re just doing friends and family or have a billion kids like me, the ALL IN THEME PACKAGE is the best theme deal ever, and I’ve bought them all!

  3. Hi, I am not complaining here, because I love genesis, really love it, this is a free plain theme after all. But we haven’t seen anything truly ‘different’ as a child theme, like AgentPress, everything is coming out the same if I make much sense.

    • Pete – you’re not complaining, so all is good. In fact, you’re being observant. While themes such as AgentPress are somewhat outside the box, they also require a fair amount of development, support and documentation. While we have no problems doing that, we also know that there is a significant amount of people who are new to WordPress and just want something simple.

One of the main reasons that we are offering free themes is to give folks who develop with Genesis a foundation for building their own themes.

The bottom line is that only a small percentage of people are looking for “different” or enhanced themes, and we do have plans (within specific niches) to cater to those at some point in the foreseeable future.

  4. Hi Brian!

  5. thx again :>

  6. who doesn’t love freebies?

  7. Just an observation…but anyone else notice that StudioPress release the Fairway theme with the black top navigation bar and shortly afterwards Google have a design update that isn’t a million miles away?

Am just saying, that’s all ;)

  8. I like to see more themes for online newspapers. Hopefully they can develop one similiar to the dailys.

  9. Brian 'The Leads Guy' Maroevich :

This offer is what tipped the scale for me. I am read to buy your genesis framework now. Thank you!

  10. Just wanted to say thanks for the free child themes you’ve been releasing, as a newbie to the Genesis framework they’ve been a massive help in learning how to develop my own child themes. It also helps that there is such a great community of people using Genesis.

  11. Where to download the free themes

  12. How about setting up an author bio for each post ? Any plugin or shortcode to do that Brian ?

    Thanks.

    Robin.
