We are very happy to announce that the Magazine 1.0 theme is now available. This theme is the fifth to be professionally optimized by Joost de Valk, who is on our development team. Below you can see how the new Magazine theme looks.

Theme Options
We are also very happy to announce that an enhanced theme options page has been built for the Magazine theme. Here are some other great features:
Tabber Section
It’s been a while since we have developed any themes that included this function – after many themes were released with the Featured Content Gallery plugin, I felt it was necessary to go back and use the tabber section, something I think works exceptionally well for a magazine theme.
Auto-Sized Thumbnails
Another awesome feature with the Magazine theme is the ability to now display automatically generated thumbnails on the homepage. You can see that the sizes of your thumbnails can be configured on the options page.
Support For Localization
Another awesome feature that is included with the Magazine theme is support for localization. We have been asked numerous times if our themes can be localized, and we are going to make sure that all of them can be internationalized into different languages.
Sidebar eNews & Updates
The Google/Feedburner eNews & Updates can easily be turned on/off via the theme options section.
Special note – I will be sending an email out to anyone who purchased the original Revolution Magazine theme, which will allow you to download the new Magazine theme.
Here’s a screenshot of how the new Magazine theme options looks:

So glad to see this one released – I’ll be building a site using it right away.
Glad to hear it Rebecca, show me what you end up with!
Nice job guys!
I’m really digging the options you guys are including with the new themes. It just gives us a lot more freedom to customize the site without worrying about breaking the theme
Kudos on another great release.
All the best.
Stu
Thanks Stu – yeah, we’re really happy with our new theme options page, it provides access to a lot of things that we previously were missing.
The return of magazine! Thanks for doing this Brian et. al.! What a great theme this is!
You bet Grant – now are you going to redo the Land Report with it?
Oh thank you guys. This looks fantastic, just what I was looking for. You’ve done it again.
Sorry if I’ve missed it but I don’t see the download option in the support forum ala the other themes?
The new theme options looks awesome, good job!
Thanks Kate – appreciate the feedback!
Brian, Excellent work, that kind of innovation continues to inspire the rest of us to do better! Good for everyone!
Awesome! I am totally looking forward to using this theme on a project!
The “Special note”? That is what I’d call beyond customer service.
Way to go StudioPress Team!
Steve
Nice to see the new theme released!
Great theme, so beatuful.
Just to let everyone know that Brian has now uploaded the theme to the support area.
Great work Brian and Joost de Valk.
I was waiting for this one.
Thanks.
Hi Brian
I think you found a perfect balance between old and new with this theme, thanks so much
Can’t wait to start using it now
Just downloaded the theme but very confused about the thumbnail feature. Looked on your forum and couldn’t find any help. Don’t know where to turn.
Go to the Magazine theme tutorials, and it discusses how to implement them. In a nutshell, upload an image and use thumb as the custom key value and that will create all the necessary thumbnail images. The Magazine theme options page is where you can specify what size the image is shown as.
That makes no sense to me. Don’t I just add a photo to post and have it auto resize? That was my impression based on your description of the feature. Your forum contains no new updates about this new thumbnail feature.
Yes, upload the photo and then put the url in the custom field per the tutorial. The TimThumb Script will autosize the images (dimensions spec’d on the theme options page) and will automatically show them on the homepage.
Got it. I didn’t realize I need to use the custom fields to make that happen. Thanks
I see one error in the programming. The “Homepage Main” “read more posts from..” category doesn’t display the dropdown choice. It actually points to “Homepage Top Left” category.
Good catch, go into the home.php file and change this:
< ?php sp_read_more_from('featured_top_left'); ?>
To this:
< ?php sp_read_more_from('featured_main'); ?>
Thanks – That works.
Theme is really eye catchy and fully customizable makes worth to look for.
This is truly an amazing job! I love this theme and I am so happy to see it get resurrected. Awesome job, please keep up the excellent work. Thanks team Studiopress.
Well done once again. The drop down options for sidebars, analytics etc are very handy.
Hey, Brian, this looks really hot. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is some cross-browser issues. The theme looks a bit different in IE 7 than it does in Firefox 3.
Otherwise, awesome.
Thanks Stephanie, I’ve fixed the issues that you have mentioned!
In your demo – as viewed in IE 6 the google ads are dropped down the page on top of the Carrie Underwood bit
I used the Revolution Magazine theme for ages and it is great to see a new updated version.
Brian, the themes are getting better all the time. You just gotta stop making them easier to use. It is getting hard for me to look clever these days!!
Cheers!
David
I am a publisher of 3 magazines (printed) and I use revolution sport with feature content gallery for two of the wesbites. http://warehousenews.co.uk and http://grocerytrader.co.uk.
I think this new theme is great apart from as a magazine publisher the main source of revenue comes from your main banner advert at the top of the page but with this new theme you will struggle to get a banner advert to fit nicely.
Otherwise its great!!! Well Done.
I especially like the bottom of the homepage where you have the sections with the thumbnails. Wink Wink
great job! looks amazing. Its interesting, how you made the customization-page, absolutely professionell.
Hi,
I’m curious to know if it is possible to control the number of tabs if you need less than six. I need three, so would the other three be blank?
Also is it possible to control the size of the box such as the one that has Victoria Beckham to possible show more than one post there as you scroll down?
Thanks,
Jen
I already have almost 30 categories and it will probably go up from there. What happens after 6 tabs?
You only have so much space, so the tabs will wrap to the next line. I don’t think that looks very good, so my suggestion is that you use the tabber for hot categories instead of trying to put so many in there.
As it comes, out of the box, it is set up for 6 categories and one post per tab.
Of course, it is just code and things can be modified if you have coding knowledge or hire someone.
Hi Brian-
Just made a donation to your breast cancer walk/fundraiser…good luck to you!
How do I get the theme you are giving to those who make a donation?
thanks for all the great work you do.

Wow.. Nice “magazine theme”. Keep up the good work.

Brian,
Looks absolutely awesome! Can’t wait to implement this new theme. I really like the new options area. Thanks for the nice theme.
Hi Brian
Does the theme allow for thumbnail images on the Category and blog pages?
Currently on the demo site these pages do not show any images.
Thanks and great looking theme
No, that is not built in. It is easy enough to “steal” some code from the home page to modify the archive with though.
I too want this feature but can’t figure out how to do it. That’s the only thing that bothers me about Studiopress themes, none of them do this. I’d like the same layout on category, blog, and author pages as those on the front page.
Please, please create a tutorial for this!
Otherwise great themes, thanks!
Always exciting to see a new StudioPress release – now let’s see what I can whip up with this one
I am wondering when your Metro Theme will be optimized. I am waiting to purchase.
Probably early September.
Looking forward to your next new theme release!
Hello, I have a question, can user make a post before register into the site, with this theme, or is a wordpress configuration?
Thanks
Amazing theme, wow
Nice work Brian and Joost for the admin features. The “quickdash” section is a rather slick addition too

Hi,
I have a question about the ad space, i see only room for 2 x 468×60 banners, do we have the ability to add more Adspace, if so, how easy is it to customize? thanks! and the magazine theme is awesome!
There are plenty of Ad management plugins that will give you the capability to add more to any theme.
I just wanted to check back in and say that, after using the Magazine theme for a few weeks now, I couldn’t be happier – potentially my favorite StudioPress design even with the tough competition!
We’re glad you are happy!
Every time I think I’ve picked a new favorite Studio Press theme, you guys come out with another one!
I finished redesigning http://www.babylonpodcast.com/ using Magazine a week or so ago, and now I’m 95% sure that it’s going to be the one I use to update http://www.zombiechannel.com
Your themes are more addictive than kettle corn, you know that?
Babylon Podcast looks great – thanks for sharing!
Hi,
I have a question about the ad space, i see only room for 2 x 468×60 banners, do we have the ability to add more Adspace, if so, how easy is it to customize? thanks! and the magazine theme is awesome!
Thanks! and as with all of our themes, Magazine can be easily tweaked to incorporate the needs of your business. You’ll find the support forum quite helpful in this regard
use thumb as the custom key value , but it donot display in fontpage …
Hi Kevin,
Please come on over to the support forum and ask your question there – we’d be glad to help you troubleshoot it!
Hi guys.
This is my favourite theme and just came here to say so. However, one thing I’ve just noticed is that the volume of comments has now gone outside the core wrap of the theme.
Thanks, Gadget! Brian’s updated the theme now.
I installed the theme with a little customization but can’t figure out how to show more then just two boxes of Home Page Left & Home Page Right like in the demo example :S
Please help.
Thanks.
All you need to do is ask how in the Support Forum or review the Tutorial, also in the forum.
