We are very happy to announce that the News 1.0 theme is now available. This theme has been professionally optimized by Joost de Valk, who is on our development team. Below you can see how the News theme looks.

Theme Options
We are also very happy to announce that an enhanced theme options page has been built for the Magazine theme. Here are some other great features:
Tabber Section
It’s been a while since we have developed any themes that included this function – after many themes were released with the Featured Content Gallery plugin, I felt it was necessary to go back and use the tabber section, something I think works exceptionally well for a magazine theme.
Auto-Sized Thumbnails
Another awesome feature with the Magazine theme is the ability to now display automatically generated thumbnails on the homepage. You can see that the sizes of your thumbnails can be configured on the options page.
Support For Localization
Another awesome feature that is included with the Magazine theme is support for localization. We have been asked numerous times if our themes can be localized, and we are going to make sure that all of them can be internationalized into different languages.
Sidebar eNews & Updates
The Google/Feedburner eNews & Updates can easily be turned on/off via the theme options section.
Here’s a screenshot of how the News theme options looks:

Hei, nice theme. This is much clear than other themes from you. There is a problem with the search bar on my computer.
This theme is simple but I really like it.
I am going to use it on a new project.
Thank you Brian
good job mate , working on it now
This is Streamline stripped down, I’m not too impressed.
Sorry to hear that – this is actually not the Streamline theme stripped down – no featured content gallery, and other differences. It’s supposed to present a vanilla look, as it’s a news theme.
Sorry Brian, I was mistaken and meant the Magazine theme. Which I think does have a lot in common with News. However, after some testing I have to admit they both have their own touch. News allows even quicker customisation and has its own touch, so a nice addition to the series indeed!
It’s more like one of his older now retired themes… I think its good he’s bringing back the tabbers
Oh I do wish you guys would stop doing this,
I’d just decided to use the Magazine theme for my new project when this came along, which I think is better.
Sorry to hear that – I guess it’s time to switch over again, eh?
And another one – at first glance it looks like a re-styled version of Magazine…true statement?
Beautiful theme either way, I’ll be using it shortly
Chris
I’m sure I noticed Brian Tweet something a while ago, about the fact the News Theme could have been created from the main Core Theme that I believe he is still currently developing?! Do correct me if I happen to be wrong Brian!
Everything is going to look the same one way or another, I guess that’s where running a business like this can get difficult in a way? But hey, Brian is earning way more than me, so it must work for him! – Keep up the good work, I’m luvin these themes!
This theme is super clean. I am impressed by how good it looks considering you don’t use any images for the design (with the exception of icons). Looks like you only use good ole’ CSS. Nice attention to detail!
Thanks Josh, I tried my best to instill a fresh, yet simple look for the News theme.
Another great theme from the team @ Studiopress!
All these cool themes! Now I just need a few more projects to use them on.
Steve
Well what are you waiting on Steve, get moving!
WOW, LOVE the update of the News Theme!
Thanks for updating all these great themes!!!!
So many themes, so little time….
hmmm what should I put up on this themes?
THANKS Brian!
D’vorah
Great Theme – will be using this very soon hopefully!
The only thing i think could be missing is a breaking news banner or line at the top of the pages, the one you see on most news website – wonder if this could be added via a plugin if required?
Jeremy
I bet you’re glad this theme has been released with all the Tweeting I did about it! I’m working on a few little things to make it right for my site, but I’ll sure send you a link to let you see what I have done! – Saying that though, when I try and pick a new colour scheme, I’m not sure what to go with…guess that’s because I don’t design anything? LOL
Thanks
Mark
Sounds good Mark, shoot us a link when you have a site ready!
Brian – this News theme looks so great and clean – I can’t wait to get started – too many ideas and not enough time as usual!!
Very fresh. What I like with this theme is at first glance it looks simple but actually the attention to detail is excellent.
Nice clean design. Is News part of the All-Theme package?
Absolutely – when you buy the All Themes package, you get all current themes and all future StudioPress releases.
I use the plug-in WP-Ads to rotate ads.
How would this be integrated in the Theme Options?
I believe you would simply control this through the normal settings for the plugin, as with any theme.
Questions – can we insert video like VodPod, Flikr etc.
How about slider widgets.
Can it be expanded to ad more that two ads per page
Is it SEO optimized?
Thanks
Joost has fully optimized the theme for SEO – and it is widgetized. Of course, we can’t promise that every plugin out there will work with any given theme, but you should have no problems integrating plugins, ad boxes, videos, flickr, etc.
This might just put me over the top and force me into the all-themes package. Nice and clean – it is one of those themes that makes we want to go undo a couple of other projects!
Hey Ted, that’s great news – glad you like it!
I hear ya Ted, I want to go upgrade my past clients now!
I like the overall professional look of this theme. It’s simple, clean and professional. I’m not a big fan of the tabber (seems archaic) but other than that, the theme is a winner.
thanks! (and congrats on the wedding, I looked at your site!)
We had a lot of requests to bring the tabber back, in place of the Featured Content Gallery, but it can be easily toggled on/off via the theme options panel.
Lovely theme.
If I wanted to make any kind of significant layout changes by editing the templates themselves (I’m fully PHP, CSS, and HTML savvy) is this possible with professional themes like yours? Am looking to use this for a project, but would need to make some layout modifications that may go beyond what’s offered in the “Theme Options” panel you provide.
Thanks!
Absolutely, Anthony – the themes are released under the GPL, and there are no restrictions on the changes you can make with them from a legal standpoint. From a technical standpoint (and here I speak as the fan I was was/am, prior to becoming an employee!) the code is extremely clean, quite flexible, and a pleasure to work with.
How do you get the images in a post to show up in the tabber section??
Aaron, have you activated your support forum access yet? We’ve got tutorials for this theme there, and we’d be glad to help you with any issues you’re experiencing.
I like studio press. I was using it on one of my blogs. because of that i always received positive comments from people.
great job.
I’d love to buy either this or the lifestyle theme, but I really need some kind of business database plugin. You see I need to build a web site for a newspaper which caters to a geographical region, and each of the advertisers would like to be in a searchable database. Does anyone know where I should start looking for this kind of thing?
hi Nick,
That’s a custom database build – we do have designers/customizers on our support forums who can build such a thing. However, we don’t have anything like that built into the themes at this point.
Oh My!!
Thanks for another great theme.
