StudioPress is happy to announce the release of the News 1.1 child theme. This updated child theme works on the Genesis Theme Framework and can be downloaded by Pro Plus members in the support forum. All others can purchase the package here.
If you have already purchased the Genesis Theme Framework and any other child theme previously, you can simply purchase the child package by itself, otherwise you need the News + Genesis Theme package.
New Features
We are also very pleased to announce that the News theme has been updated with new features:
- Support for Custom Background
- Includes Footer Widgets
- Minor Cosmetic Style Changes
- Topnav Custom Menu
The News 1.1 child theme now has ID’s registered for the widget areas, so if you’re moving from 1.0 to 1.1, your widgets will get placed into the Inactive Widgets section in your dashboard. You’ll have to move them back into the appropriate areas, but you won’t actually lose them.
Here’s a screenshot of the News Child Theme:

Impressive one.
Another masterpiece, keep them coming. Can you upload a header in the same way as you can on the church child theme in the dashboard or do you have to upload a png image via FTP? if that makes sense.
Yes, the News theme takes advantage of WordPress 3.0′s new Custom Header, Background, & Menus.
No need to use FTP method.
Gorgeous! Great overall layout of info.
Thanks Aaron!
just what i needed right now thanks

You’ve made some subtle, but welcome changes, particularly with the features picker – very impressive.
Is there a way to automatically update the child theme? Or does that have to be done via FTP?
There is no automated update. You can update the theme manually by comparing the files or replace your current version with the new ones and then reapply any customizations.
hi we are looking for a new theme but we need 3 column layout (sidebar-content-sidebar), can you make the changes in this theme?
The News theme does accomodate a sidebar-content-sidebar layout.
Very nice and very clean. Is there a German Version available?
Genesis is “Internationalized”. This means it is ready to be “localized” for any language.
This is something that you must do, we do not provide translation services.
However, a few of our Members have already translated Genesis and shared their translated versions in the Support Forums. German, French, Dutch, Spanish, & Italian .POT files are available in this Support Forum.
