404 issue

I password protected a folder. It comes up 404. The issue is not with my hosts server. No 404 errors show in log.
We tested using my other (non WP) domain on my account, works fine.

I thought the 404 was caused by a caching plugin. Cleared cache, deactivated & deleted it. Deactivated all other plugins one by one and the 404 remains.

I don't remember how I set up the 404. The password protected folder also has robots.txt to prevent indexing and archiving.

I am not sure why I am getting the 404 instead of the password prompt.

Deactivate all plugins. Switch to the default WP theme.

If it still happens, please post in the wordpress.org forums.

I am not sure how to do this. And honestly, I am afraid to...

Go to Appearance -> Themes.

Click Twenty Eleven and activate it.

I found an answer, although I don't understand a word of it. :(

It's not really something we can help with, unfortunately. You may have to get your host to sort it out.

Thank you for replying. At least I know where to start. :)
