Centering lines at very bottom of footer

I'm having a surprisingly difficult time figuring out how to center one menu with two lines of text underneath. It seems the footer widgets that are currently in place are designed for three columns (Footer 1, Footer 2, and Footer 3). All three of these widgets have content currently. Any suggestions on how to add this additional content underneath those three columns and have it centered in the page?

Please include a link to your site with all questions.

Do you mean you want only one sidebar down there, i.e. footer 1?

We want to use Footer 1, Footer 2, and Footer 3 for three columns with vertical menus, but we also need to add two or three lines to be centered underneath the three columns. Does that make sense? Sorry I don't have a link to share.

Then you would need to add in a new div to add your content to and style that div in the style sheet. YOu could add a new sidebar down there if you wanted to be able to change out the text using a text widget.

I'm not able to get to the link you referenced in the previous post: http://designsbynickthegeek.com/tuto...dgeted-sidebar.

I added the three lines in a text widget and place it within Footer 2, but it's a child of the div for Footer 2. I can't break it away from Footer 2 and center it within the page.

You're not going to be able to move something out of footer 2 that you placed into footer 2. You need to create a new div beneath the footer widgets.

Gaining fundamental WP programming skills

SoZo,

Reading your post about adding a div for centering the footer makes me realize that I really need to get a better understanding on how to modify WP templates, which starts with getter a better grasp on PHP. Can you offer any suggestions for a self-taught programmer?

The PHP Manual is a good resource to peruse. But picking up a book that walks you through a few projects is probably the best way to get a real understanding of how PHP functions.

You should also have a read through Nick's Genesis Explained series (linked in my sig) and of course all the tutorials on Genesis you can find starting with StudioPress'.

But for just adding a new div all you really need is a grasp of Genesis hooks and how to structure a function. Which for a new div above the footer would go something like (the "1" in the add action on the first line is a priority number and you might need to raise that to get it beneath the footer widgets):
PHP Code:

add_action('genesis_before_footer''my_new_div'1);
function
my_new_div() {
     echo
'<div id="NEW_DIV">STUFF IN THE DIV IF NOT PHP</div>';

That would go in functions.php.

Or of course you could use the Genesis Simple Hooks plugin
