Uploaded images

I am working on a client's website and when I try to upload images to use for the header, they are not showing up.

I can upload those same images to another site and they show up fine. Any idea why this would happen and how I can fix it?

I'm getting a 404 on the header image that is apparently used.

Check the uploads folder permissions.

I can write to the file. The settings have not been changed. I can upload the image, but when it's in the media folder, I can't see it.

Ask your host to check the folder permissions.

I have checked the folder permissions and the file is both writable and executable, but I still cannot see the image when I upload it. It just shows a broken link. I really need to get this site updated, but I don't know what to do. Please help!

And there is another permission level on files called "ownership". The only person who can check that is your host.

Right now I see a header just fine.

There is a header there now because that's the old theme. I'm trying to change themes and upload the header into the new theme, as well as book cover images. None of them show.

Could this be a WordPress upgrade issue? I had problems with another client's site (not the same issue though) after I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress.

Yes - permissions can get changed when upgrading.

Should I re-install the latest version of WordPress?

I'm not sure how it would help considering the default WP package does not have the upload folder, but you can try.
And ask your host. ;)

I've tried all of this and still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Switch to the default WP theme.

Upload a header.

Still busted?

If so - then you really have to get their webhost to sort it out.

renwil 11-09-2012 07:55 AM

Yep, still busted. Back to GoDaddy.

Good luck. :) Be sure and tell them it does this with the default WP theme so they cannot blame that.
