Genesis Framework -what good does it do for a programmer?
So, I am VERY disappointed that I can't just go into the Genesis framework? It seems to not allow me to change ANYTHING that I want to customize my blog!
I am not an expert, but I do know how to make changes in the css to get what I want. But all the genesis pages say "DO NOT EDIT". How do I edit then? Even just the simple act of adding a new favicon doesn't work. |
Adding a new favicon happens in the chidl theme. :)
Have you seen the tutorials here? http://www.studiopress.com/tutorials/ They also explain how child themes work. All your edits go in the child theme and use hooks to interact with Genesis itself - much like when you customize WordPress. ;) You don;t edit core WP files to change things either, you use plugins and themes that hook into it. |
Yes, I have looked at the tutorials, maybe I'm just missing something fundamental. ?
I am going into my child theme and deleting the favicon image to upload my new favicon and it won't allow me to delete it. It must just be something on my end... |
The core Genesis files should not be updated as changes will be lost when a framework update happens - you should be doing all your edits in the child theme.
If you are having issues deleting things etc in FTP it could be a hosting issue - are you using Plesk? I had lots of issues with access permissions when using a VPS with Plesk. This is an issue with having Wordpress on Plesk and not related to Genesis... |
Favicons that a really long time to clear from your browser cache. That's unrelated to Genesis or even WordPress.
If you give me a link to your site, I can check and see if it shows the new one for visitors. |
Thank you all for your responses. Since I am so new at this genesis framework and such, I am just winging it!
I did find that my FTP wasn't set up properly, so once it was fixed, I was able to dump things in my theme folder. thanks all! |
Great since the issue is resolved, I'll close the thread. If you have more questions, please open a new thread.
