Getting rid of gray arrows on the FCG

Is it possible to get rid of the light gray arrows that show on the left and right sides of the FCG?

Go to plugins and find this file: featured-content-gallery/js/jd.gallery.js.php

Open it up and at the top you should see a bunch of stuff with :true or :false net to it. Find this:
show arrows: true and change it to show arrows: false

John, where would I find this plug in?

public html>wp-content>plugins>featured content scroller>scripts

Hi John:

I followed your directions and changed the arrows from "true" to "false", saved it and it asked me if I wanted to reload it to the server with the changes and I said yes. I then had a white box in the FCG.

I went back and changed it back to "false", saved and reloaded it back to the server and I still have a white box for my FCG.

I'm lost with this one.

Honestly I'm not sure what the problem is, I've done it this way a ton of times and it's worked fine....did you do anything besides change true to false?

Lori 07-11-2010 09:56 PM

Nope, only changed the true to false. That didn't work so I changed it back, but now my FCG is white.

What can I do to fix it? Is there a way to replace that file so it works?

John Flynn 07-11-2010 10:06 PM

If your FCG was working perfectly and all you did was change true to false in that one file and then changed it back then the problem must be in the plugin yes so just delete it and reinstall it and see if that fixes it.

How do I delete it and reinstall it?

Lori 07-11-2010 10:10 PM

I want to make sure I do it correctly so I don't ruin the contents of my website.

John Flynn 07-11-2010 10:19 PM

Just go in through ftp, select it, delete it and then reinstall it. I think it is a WP 3.0 thing maybe. The FCG support forum still shows the directions I gave you so maybe they haven't updated? http://www.featuredcontentgallery.co...699.html#p9896

Where do I reinstall it from once I delete it in FileZilla?

Do I just delete that one file - jd.gallery.js.php or the entire "Featured Content Gallery" file? Where do I get the replacement?

Lori 07-11-2010 10:31 PM

Okay, I downloaded the FCG files again and replaced the one file and it's working.

whew!

Lori-

I tried it on a 3.0 install of mine and I got the white box the same as it did for you. It works on all my 2.9 installs though so it must be a plugin issue with 3.0. You could leave a message at the FCG support forum or honestly a better approach might be to just use Ade's Dynamic Content Gallery instead. which is in my opinion far superior.

Hi John:

Thanks for all your help and patience on this.

I'm intrigued by the DCG you mentioned. Is there someplace I can go to take a look at what's it looks like?

Is there an easy transition from the FCG to the DCG? Also, would it affect any of my images if I download the DCG?

Thanks again John.

Lori
