Agentpress childtheme is nothing like demo site...
I'm shopping around for a theme framework and was considering Genesis with AgentPress child theme, since I am starting a real estate brokerage company.
When I told my friend I was going to get Genesis with Agentpress, he told me he tried it awhile back and the AgentPress child theme looks nothing like the beautifully developed Demo Site for AgentPress. So he told me to not bother. My question, is, is my friend correct or is he full of bs? I basically want that demo site with just a few minor tweeks. Is this possible or do I ultimately need to hire a website developer to get it done? |
are tutorials to set up as per the demo and there is a very long thread done by a user to help explain how to set up also.
Setting up does require some work on your part but so does having a site! :): |
Thanks Debra. I guess I just assumed you get the look and feel of the demo site, since it is presented as a "demo site," like buying a car based on a demo car, not a souped up kitted out version of the car for sale.

It's not quite like a "kit car" per se.
I think of it like buying bicycles. You can get a bicycle that is completely built and ready to ride. Someone (a bike mechanic) built it for you. -- That's hiring a web developer to make the site for you (using AgentPress+Genesis+WP or whatever else). You can buy a bicycle from a bike shop that requires assembly. You'll have to follow the instructions and are able to tweak it along the way (if you really want to). The engineering is done, all of the pieces are already built, you just need to follow instructions to put all of the pieces together. - That's buying Genesis+AgentPress (or any of the other child themes) (and most WordPress themes in my opinion). You can buy a DIY bike kit. You'll need to make the pieces from their instructions. You'll have to built all of the pieces, then put it together. - That's making the site from scratch. To get the demo site, you won't need to code anything. Just need to know to "add [blank] widget on the Appearance->Widgets page", etc. Matter of time and money too. I'll make you the site for a few thousand dollars. You can do it with Genesis for $99 or you can built it yourself from scratch for free. The first one will take you little time and effort, the second will take you moderate time and effort and the latter will take a great deal of time of effort. In all cases, if the site gets you one more sale than without it, you'll make plenty more than the cost, but which one gives you the best ROI while matching your available funds, skillset and time. Hope that helps. Quote:

Great reply. Having taken the plunge (since speculating outside can only take me so far) I bought the framework and child theme. The first post in the Agentpress forum is just super. Now, I'll see if I have the brain to follow the instruction.

Good luck! and enjoy :):
