Thanks for the replies

Ive used the subnav for the classified ads hence its the only method of accessing the posts on the site. Posts which appear on the featured areas on the front page are fine...

Oh dear. I was worried you would say that.
Ive organised my site around the sub nav. Most visitors would arrive at a post via that route.
Hence not have the Adsence or comment box :)

Found a bit more out :-

When I go to a post via the subnav I get no adsense banner or comment box.
If I then click on the posts title the post reloads with adsense and the comments are visible.

Its my understanding that this tutorial gives you consecutive posts. I want to select which three I want to display.
One method may be to actually set up a category purely for these areas...
