Default Install genesis zip file from Mac

I having difficulty uploading entire genesis zip file as shown in the studio press getting started tutorial. I downloaded genesis and a them zip file but can not select the entire genesis zip file as shown in tutorial. When I browse files to upload genesis into wordpress themes on my mac, I locate the zip file but it does not highlight to allow me to chose the genesis zip folder, the individual files contained in the zip folder however can be highlighted. Any help would be appreciated.

You may have to right click on the folder name, and then choose "compress". This will give you a zip to install in the admin area of WP.

Some Macs have a default setting to automatically uncompress zip files upon download.

Here we go again :)

Even a Mac does not delete the zip file when decompressing though so the zip file should still be there.

When I install a theme I typically go to the themes install upload page and drop the zip file on the "choose file" button. When you move the grabbed file over the button it highlights it and then you just let go of the mouse button to begin the installation.

It should not, but we have seen this issue crop up time and again. It isn't anything we can fix on our end.

I am running a Mac here, and at least mine did not do that when I got it, but our other staff members have confirmed there are some that do and they had to change their settings.

It's down to the operating system I think. I still use 10.6 so I guess it may be a Lion issue.

Still, it should not delete what it decompresses so the zip file must be there.... How I read it is it not a question of it not being there, but not being selectable in the upload pop up window. Thats why I suggested the alternative route of dropping it on the "choose file" button.

If all else fails you can also upload the files to the themes directory using ftp and then activate the theme in the admin menu. That only works with unzipped files so there them missing or not working cannot be a problem :)

Yes, and we do often suggest that but for some users, they have no idea how to ftp. ;)
