Default Changing theme, content, structure. Any advice appreciated.

Hoping some members of the community will help with this, from their own experience.

Want to change from AgentPress theme to a StudioPress mobile responsive theme and plan to do a complete update of the content at the same time. E.G.

- removing content no longer relevant
- rewriting content to reflect changes in business model
- reorganising categories
- updating SEO on existing pages using SEO plugin

Any advice would be appreciated before I make loads of noob mistakes. For example, I'm not even sure whether deleting pages is a no-no in SEO terms. Thanks.

If you delete pages that have been indexed and someone visits that page they will receive a 404 error. Best thing to do is add redirects for all the pages that you delete.

Thanks SoZo. What's the best way of adding redirects for deleted pages?

I usually just add them to the htaccess file but there are plugins that will let you do it through the Dashboard.

Ok, thanks again. I think I'll look for an appropriate plugin as the first bit lost me

-----

Noticed today when I activated the Yoast SEO plugin that I lose all the SEO work done on earlier pages with the inbuild Genesis SEO.

Does this mean I need to go back and redo every previously published page and post using Yoast? And if so, should I be copying what was done before or is acceptable to rewrite for new keywords, etc?

Yes, Yoast replaces the Genesis SEO
