Default is there a plugin for importing images from URL to Media Library?

I have done some moderate searching, but unless I'm reading descriptions wrong, there doesn't seem to be one plugin that fits.

What I'd like to do is this:

1) add an image to Media Library from an external URL using the uploader
2) have that image be added/imported into the Media Library and saved as a local image in the appropriate uploads sub-folder in real time

I've found a couple of plugins that will do this in bulk for linked images in old posts, but nothing that will do the trick as I'm adding the image to the new post.

Has anyone else seen something like this, or close to it?

There are 2 plugins I can recommend:
Add From Server
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-from-server/
-> any directory on your own server - just like uploading 50 pics on your webserver anywhere and then import with this plugin in the media library

Upload Media by Zip
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...-media-by-zip/
-> Also useful when just upload large image archives (from local hard disk) - can added to specific page/post or just in the library

Hope that helps a bit, dave :)

Here is what I have used:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...o-gallery-v01/

Works well for images stored on other servers (blogger, flickr, etc)

Thanks Daisy... this might be just the tool I need.

I'm not sure why it doesn't put the image in the uploads folder that matches the date of the post for older posts (something I've just asked the plugin author about), but other than that, it does seem to be perfect for the job.

Alas, still waiting to hear from the plugin author if there's a solution/workaround for getting images from older posts into the right uploads year/month folders. It's going to be great for new posts going forward, though.

I thought I could test a few things by only bulk importing a few authors' posts, people who only have a handful of posts apiece, but the bulk import seems to be an all or nothing option, and having it try to import 7 years worth of images is NOT on my list of things to try first!

I'm sorely tempted to sift through the PHP code and see if I can modify it myself. I have this shiny new customization of Associate I want to turn up live tonight, and finding a straightforward solution for this external images thing has been trickier for me than Rubik's Revenge or Rubik's Professor!
