Are you using IE 8? It's a known bug to load erratically (I tried several fixes but still an issue, so I switched to Google Chrome - much faster than IE or Firefox for me).
If not, next time it happens, check your plugins and disable them one at a time, start with anything non standard (IE akismet probably wouldn't be a problem). If still a problem, try upgrading to a Gigabyte Router, I've seen that correct connectivity issues for a number of clients. P.S. providers seldom admit it's their problem.
