Default Mega Menus/Menus for people who have long/lots of categories

So I have lots of categories that are important and relevant to my site content and I already excluded and/or recategorized many of them so that I didn't have so many menu buttons and drop down menus that extend my page beyond the footer...

I saw a wordpress blog that has a mega menu or something of the sort where under each category/menu tab you choose, there's a variety of selections and instead of "dropping" down it makes a big box that goes to the side and down some but not enough to go beyond the end of the page.

I researched and the only thing I can come up with is that such a menu is considered a "mega" menu...how do I go about implementing one on my wordpress with my Magazine theme. I tried suckerfish but that's no better than the drop down I already got with my magazine theme.

Any advice? Am I reaching for the stars here? I want to make sure it would work with my theme and if you guys know how and where to find one that does, please let me know!

StudioPress uses a modified suckerfish menu system.

Wait for WordPress 3.0. It has a new menu system in it and with that as a base I think you will see more menu plugins. I'm sure the Genesis Theme Framework will support the WordPress menu system when it comes out in May.

An alternative is to look at how others are doing their mega menus. Much Shopping Cart software is open source and I would think they might have these menus. You might also search Sourceforge. Perhaps you will be the person who develops the first WordPress mega menu plugin.

hmm..sounds interesting but at the same time...I don't want to have to change my entire theme to a Genesis theme to be able to utilize the mega menus that may be available with wordpress 3.0.

sites like Temptalia.com that run on wordpress use mega menus so i know it's possible to do so on WP right now, just have to figure out how.

Examine the page source. If they are using a plugin, it would may need to be loaded. Probably in the header or in the footer.

Looks advanced to me but I think I'll give it a try on a dummy site I'm working on before I mess up my regular one haha! Thanks.
