I would never let a six year old near my computer

This is a div opening tag: <div id="homepagetop">
This is a closing tag: </div>
Each opening must have a closing.
Divs exist to divide and control the appearance of content. Each div has a corresponding selector in the style sheet, style.css. e.g. #hompageetop, which is used to set property values.

So you need to add a new div, or container for the content you want to add into home.php and a selector to control that div into the style sheet.

If you are unfamiliar with HTML/CSS I recommend contacting one of the approved designers for a quote or doing some reading. An excellent source for tutorials is W3Schools.
