Default Should I use 'posts and categories' or 'custom post types'?

I will be building a travel site for a city that will include hotels, attractions, events, restaurants, articles, etc. I am having a hard time deciding which direction to go: 'posts and categories' or 'custom post types'. If I didn't know otherwise, I would immediately assume to go the direction of custom post types but after reading this post by Otto I feel it would be better to use posts with categories. Plus I am more comfortable with the latter.

I can't help but think of the way AgentPress is currently structured but I thought I read how they are switching listings over to custom post types (please correct me if this is wrong).

Right now I lean toward using posts and categories but would like some input from others.

Thanks,
Josh

I think Otto makes some excellent points in that article - I would tend to start out with posts and categories (you can always rework that if you need to later...)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Rebecca! Otto was kind of enough to create some dialogue with me on the subject.

Any more thoughts?

so you don't want to have your hotel listings, etc feed into your RSS/content stream?

No, I don't think so. Not 100% sure though.

I think what I am trying to accomplish is similar in concept to AgentPress. However, will the next version of AgentPress use custom post types or stick with using posts?

On another note, I just noticed that the 'Genesis SEO Options and Settings' and 'Genesis Layout Options' meta boxes do not show up on my custom post type edit screen.

You'll need to add support for them when you register your custom post type: genesis-seo and genesis-layouts are the two names you'll need.

Gary, You're awesome. Thanks for the head up. It worked like a charm.
