Default Double Images on Blog Page

I am in the process of migrating my site to Genesis and a child theme by Themedy.com. My main blog page (http://2011.sageba.com/blog/) is displaying double images for most posts. The first one is the featured image. The second image is the same image which was in the original post. I should mention that in most cases, I DID NOT set a featured image explicitly. There appears to be some function that is saying "grab the first image in the post and make it a featured image". I don't mind this, because it is nice having a "featured image" to use for certain purposes (like displaying featured posts/images in the sidebar for example). BUT, I DO NOT want it to double display images on my main blog page because then it looks like crap (as you can see by scrolling down through these posts http://2011.sageba.com/blog/).

Any ideas as to how to resolve this issue? This does not seem like the proper default behavior for featured images.

This is a reminder that we do not allow Theme support questions in the General Discussions forum. Please review the Forum Rules - #6 and post your question in the theme's forum.

Thank you.

I mentioned my theme and child theme simply to provide context (i.e. this is what I am in the process of doing, when I came across this general problem). The question that I asked is more general in nature and from Googling it, other people have experienced similar problems...so I was hoping someone in this support forum might be able to assist. Are you suggesting that I post in the "Genesis Theme" forum even though the problem may be more general than they might like to see there?
