display code in post

I have not been successful in displaying code like here....

I tried the following per the source code

but it does not display the line number or the green border-left, which might be specified in css? I cannot find any searches that explain this.

I found a 'Syntaxhighlighter' plugin that works with . Is this what everybody uses?
