Default Broken Links

I am using Streamline with Genesis
Looking at Google webmaster and also having a Site evaluation done by Alexa, both are coming up with broken links that need to be fixed.

Not sure where this information comes from or how to fix it. Seems one of the biggest problems is with archived pages

Example, I just posted this page 3 days ago http://beachcomberpete.com/herculaneum_italy/
Google and Alexa says it has 181 broken links to pages

Example of pages that this page has a broken link to is
http://beachcomberpete.com/2011/06/page/2/
which I guess is a archived page to June 2011

I did not intentionally link to this page, do not see where it links to this page or where I would even fix the link to these archived pages.

Any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

Pete

One of the Theme Settings is to use Canonical Archives - basically, page 2, 3, 4 and beyond on an archive are marked as having page 1 as the canonical page - this can make search engines think that page 2, and beyond are broken, when in actual fact they are fine for human visitors.

Thanks Gary

So if I unclick the archives setting on the Theme setting pages, will it get rid of the archive pages, such as for the month of June, and will this then clean up my broken links.

According to Google I have over 500 pages like this that show broken links with the majority going to these archive pages.

Thanks again

Peet

If you unselect the setting, it won't get rid of the archive pages (these are generated dynamically by WordPress), but it will amend the <meta name="canonical" value="..." /> value in the source of those page 2+. Play with the setting and check the source before and after.

However, that in turn may cause some SEO issues later on (read up on what canonical links are, and why they are a good thing).
