Yeah, there was a really big to do with Thesis about a year ago regarding this license. StudioPress has very proudly held to the terms of the GPL license, and strongly encourages developers to build child themes for Genesis. In fact, if you check the StudioPress blog you will see that some key developers who have been creating themes for their clients, for sale, and for free, are getting recognition.
It is generally held that the core upgrades and service at StudioPress is the main sales feature, and we are working hard to make headway there by highlighting developers, updating the framework, and building up the support system. StudioPress has really been doing a good job of building a mutually beneficial relationship with developers so we can all benefit.
