I only started using WordPress about 6 months ago after using another website authoring software, but started using Shopp shortly after. (I must add that I spent a year trying to learn WordPress before the light went on.) I spent ages researching e-commerce plugins, it was hard to distinguish genuine reviews and affiliate 'reviews'. I wouldn't exactly recommend Shopp wholeheartedly as getting support is a nightmare. They do have a 'premium' support scheme but it does not guarantee a solution if an issue does arise.

The very nature of having an online store is fraught with difficulty, and I haven't met the perfect solution yet. I have an associate who raves about BigCommerce - but its very pricey when you have a lot of products. I have heard good things about Cart66.

I think the secret to success with an online store is to have a bit of a McGyver attitude and be ready to come up with enterprising solutions.
