Yes, that makes perfect sense. :)
I've been searching around to see if I can find a comments list plugin which can do what you want - without success, I'm afraid. :| The problem is that template tags such as wp_list_comments() are based on post ID, and therefore can't be used to build a sidebar list. All the recent comments plugins I've looked at use a custom sql query, which means you'd need some custom code to do what you want. Your best bet would be to contact a Studiopress Customiser to do this for you. Hope this helps.
