Changing Colors

Let me take a crack at this one Brian

Some of themes like Magazine have the option to change background colors and all that on the fly but if you want to change the entire look of the theme to another "custom color" or series of colors you will need to edit all of the image files that control the backgrounds and the rest you can do via css.

Brian gave you an example bg.png which is obviously the background image and you will find that image in home/blog/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/images/

Along with the background image there are some other images that you might want to change like footer.png, subnav.png and wrap.png.

those files for example footer.png controls the footer background color and wrap.png controls the header background while subnav controls the background around the header.

You can upload a custom background in the theme control but it only places it below the header. If you want to use a custom full length background image like I do you need to do some custom coding.

I have gotten about 3/4 through the process with the magazine theme here but still haven't found how to get rid of the black at the very top nor how to make my custom background push all the way to the top.

Hope that was helpful as I do understand the frustration of working on trial and error but that is how I learned wordpress with some tips from theme developers like Brian and his moderators. In these cases it does help to have some knowledge of CSS and PHP which I have been playing with for years and I look at wordpress as a new challenge to pass.
