It isn't difficult to fix up the homepage if you just want to get it pulling all of the content correctly. First open up home.php and in each of the sections you'll see that it has a part that includes cat=1. Change the number in this to the ID number of the category you want to show posts from.

If it isn't that you're stuck with you please post the specific areas you want to change.
