I found some more information on this and it seems that the way I prefer to code is in fact the more efficient and technically correct way:
http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/show...Echo-Statement Under some circumstances it makes sense to include html in the echo, but generally I see no reason to do it. It makes the code more difficult to read and maintain. Plus as I said before it breaks html syntax highlighting which can be really annoying. I also noticed that most code examples in the WordPress codex are done using the method that I typically use. Unless I'm missing something here.... does anyone have any thoughts on this?
