WP Cycle was originally written about 3 years ago, before WP had CPTs & custom image sizes. StudioPress takes advantage of functionality built into WP rather than maintain custom code/functionality where possible. So, the amount of work involved aside, we wouldn't add the WP Cycle method into the slider because it would go against our development strategy.
