1.Did you use IE? Widget has problem on IE, sometimes save failed. Use another browser
2. Try to remove the widget and add it back. But before you do that, copy your widget content to notepad, in case of missing content when you add it back.
3. Try to update WP 2.8 to WP 2.8.1 beta 1, there are reports about WordPress 2.8 has bugs, this probable one of them. Here's the link: http://wordpress.org/download/beta/
